I highly recommend people to redo this day if they are having struggles with the next days! I think it helped me :) Natalie, I love your positivity! I think it would really help me if you had a benchmark for us to measure ourselves against to decide if we should move to the next day or repeat the day.
@NatalieReckert4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your observations. It is difficult to say cause it will be different for every person. I would say consistency is a good benchmark. If you can do something 8 out of 10 attempts, then it is consistent and I would say you can move on. It is also important that you feel confident, you should feel 80% confident before you move on. But then some people need to feel very sure and safe in order to progress and others like to take big steps and risks...

Hey, Natalie! Thank you for this great episode! I liked it so much, I did it two days in a row)) Really, in my first go, I could only touch the wall a couple of times for the whole video, and I was shocked by how heavy I was. The second day I could already kick myself up there maybe once in every 4-5 swings (I did a lot more tries than you prescribed). Sometimes it is a real struggle, but other times I float up effortlessly as if it's natural for my body. Guess my body is trying to figure out a whole lot of new stuff in alignment and muscle memory and it can't be done momentarily.

@@NatalieReckert I have realized that when I get to about 30 seconds, I feel light-headed, and this makes it nearly impossible to hold the handstand for more than 40 seconds. Managed to finally touch the kicking leg and the jumping leg both on the wall, but fell back immediately. Maybe because the legs are not entirely straight.I think I need to practice more so that my legs are not bent. Your advice of trying to touch the ceiling instead of thinking of hitting the wall really helped. Have to practice much more to straighten legs and hold for some time
@NatalieReckert5 жыл бұрын
Hello Ritu, congratulations! You probably fall back because you are arching your back a lot and your stomach is pulling you back. Try to round your back more and push into the floor. Also work on shoulder flexibility and core strength. Over time you will get much stronger than you ever thought you would and you will look back at the early days of your practice wondering what was so hard about it 🙂 Best wishes
@ritupande14205 жыл бұрын
@@NatalieReckert Most likely you are correct. Since I practice alone, its difficult for me to see for myself what is happening. hi natalie. I love your videos . my back leg always seems to be bent. I cant seem to straighten it. not tipping the wall yet either. any ideas on the bent back leg?
@NatalieReckert5 жыл бұрын
Hi, my guess from a distance is that you are not rounding your back enough and that you are not jumping strongly enough. Set yourself sideways to a mirror or camera, hands on the floor, shoulders above wrists, back rounded, leg behind you. Look at the leg, check if it's straight, memorise that feeling and swing and jump. Hope this helps, best wishes
@Juzztop224 жыл бұрын
Didn't touched the wall cuz I'm a bit coward and don't put my hands close enough to the wall. But filmed myself and my shoulders are above wrists same as the foot proped up. Hips not fully stacked but I guess is because didn't jump enough. Gotta repeat this class tomorrow to get more familiar with the kickup. So stoked to feel that second of suspension!

@h2olog3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for telling us to try both ways. Taking a step into the handstand was physically easier, but I had to stop the video because the repetitions made me nauseous! By starting with hands planted, I could begin the move already looking down and back so the room didn't spin as much. As you predicted, starting with hands planted required a more forceful swing-and-jump, but I was able to practice repetitively without feeling sick. Starting with hands planted also seemed to make it harder to control the strength of the swing-and-jump. I sometimes hit the wall really hard with my heel. Conversely, at one point I caught myself bending my top knee at the top of the swing, trying to "cheat" by reaching back for the wall with my top foot. It seems that controlling the intensity will be the next challenge.

I call this swing & jump exercise "combating my lifetime gravity"! I notice Natalie your swing leg is parallel to the wall before it touches the wall. I can't straighten my swing leg at all at the moment. Not sure what is causing a bent leg. Is it because I don't have enough hip flexibility? Need to practice a lot more... Thank you Natalie for the fun classes and a bit of challenge every day.
@NatalieReckert5 жыл бұрын
Hello Qihan :) Flexibility can be a reason why you can't bend the leg, or your body does not have full awareness yet of where your leg is. Try lifting your leg as high as you can without jumping. Then push it really straight. Memorise that feeling as if you clicked copy and then try to paste it into the movement and apply it in the handstand.
@jennyrubio16444 жыл бұрын
Hey Natalie! I really enjoy your 30-Day challenge videos and it's been really cool to see all the progress I've made since I started. However, I've been working on Day 24 with the kick up for more than two weeks now and I can't seem to get my foot to touch the wall yet 😓. The first time I tried it, I was able to get my foot about a 5 inch distance from the wall, but I never even got that far afterwards. I feel like I've reached a plateau for some reason and although I've filmed myself and tried to see why I haven't been able to bring my foot to touch the wall, I can't seem to figure it out even after adjusting some form issues I noticed. I'm not sure if it's leg strength for a stronger swing and jump (no matter how hard I try the leg swing doesn't go as high as I'd like), if it might be arm and shoulder strength or maybe even core. I don't know could recommend some additional exercises or if maybe even going back to some of the previous day's practices for a while would help. Thanks!
@NatalieReckert4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, it sounds like you have been working very hard! Here are a few things to do and watch out for: Are you using the full pint of your toe to oush off? Are you bending the leg enough? Does your siwnging leg swing down almost touching the floor and then up as hard as possible? Are you rounding your back as much as possible? These are a few things you can try. Try also systematically keep working on the swing and jump exercise and one day it will come! Don't give up. It can take time but you will eventually get there. Best wishes

@hildiwildi77804 жыл бұрын
Hey Natalie, thanks so much for sharing your expertise with us! I really enjoy your ways of teaching! I have a question regarding the turnout of my legs. When I kick up, I tend to turn out my swinging leg (when I do the splits, my hips are quite ‘open’ and not square). Would you recommend trying to lift the leg 'in parallel’, so that they arrive in the same rotation when I am in the handstand? That would decrease my flexibility which then makes it a little bit harder for me to find balance once I am up, as I have to use more momentum from the swing that way... Because I can somehow do a handstand, but can’t hold it very consistently, I was thinking where I could maybe improve my technique (starting the 30 day challenge has helped already! ) and whether that’s a point that I could tackle!
@NatalieReckert4 жыл бұрын
Hello and thank you for our question. I can see what you mean. I would recommend keeping the leg fairly square. I think if it turns out a lot, yoyu need to then correct a lot of stuff once you are up and that makes it harder to balance. Havea good look at why your kick ups lack momentum, maybe you are not swinging the leg up and down enough, or you ould jump more, or yoyur shoulders can be above the wrists more. Film yourself and try to see what is happening. Cause ultimately like you say you want to be able not just to get up there but hold as well. And for that a clean kick up is very beneficial. Best wishes

Take time to practice the bits that you find difficult and repeat some of the classes for a few days until you feel more confident. Take it step by step, it is a good start to touch with a bent leg! Focus on jumping more (bend the jumping leg more and push ot straight more) and on really driving the leg up. All the best for your practice.

Round your back as much as you can when your hands touch the floor, if you are not rounding your back, it will be very hard to go up. Have a look at this video it may help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZjGg2Bsra-pd9k

Do the swing and jump exercise a few more times and make sure you round your back as much as you can when you kick up. Round the back, jump off and swing the leg as much as you can. Hope this helps

Hi Natalie, I recorded myself and saw that even when my foot touched the wall, it's because my legs are a little bent despite that I try to straighten them like you did in the video. Would that be a problem? Any advice? Thanks!
@NatalieReckert3 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's a problem. Try to straighten it as much as possible. That's your task for the future on your way to get even better :)

Hi Natalie, when I try to kickup, my hands collapse. Is there some kind of test that I can use to check if I am missing strength or is it problem with the technique? I can do wall walks, hold myself in L-shape, however, when I try to kickup, my arms collapse

Hello Ritu, it sounds like you are taking your shoulders too far over your wrists. Are you keeping your elbows straight? I don't think you are lacking strength but you may be lacking shoulder mobility so that when you try to kick up you arch your back and move the shoulders forward to compensate for the lack of shoulder mobility?

@@NatalieReckert You are right. That is what was happening when I was trying to touch the wall. When I tried to touch the ceiling, I was able to hit the wall without faling

I am unable to kick up, I have repeated this session thrice, but I'm unable to touch the wall :(
@NatalieReckert4 жыл бұрын
Hiya, the most common reason for this is if your shoulder do not aligne with your wrist in the moment of the kick up and you are not rounding your back. It may also be because you are not jumping enough or not swinging your leg uo and down- Check yourself on video and check if your back leg actually swing DOWN and the up and whether your shoulder are above the wrists. This may also help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZjGg2Bsra-pd9k

I went from being too scared/ no strength to kick up against the wall to kicking up and holding for at least 2 secs midair (not intentional as my leg didn’t touch the wall )

Coach Natalie: I can kick up and hold against the wall, but my shoulders can't be very open, so it is hard to stay without wall, even stay in banana shape :( give me a suggestion please. Btw: I stretch my shoulders almost daily now
@likesgymnastics57675 жыл бұрын
just keep stretching your shoulders. Like it shouldn't take you more than 1-2 weeks till you get sufficient mobility for a handstand.

Hi James, It takes a long time to learn a handstand, try to be patient. Styain gwithout the wall is much harder. So the first step is to build strength with the wall even if you are not in the right shape yet. Take extra time every day to stretch you shoulders and try to hold the handstand whichever way you can against the wall. Over time you will improve. If that is not possible, then stretch your shoulders and do handstand prep exercises until you feel stronger and more ready. If you want to learn about how to do a freestanding handstand in more detail have a look at my 7 week Vimeo course: vimeo.com/ondemand/handbalancing Best wishes

It is hard to touch the wall because am bending to the side🙁 I am not at the center 😞
@NatalieReckert5 жыл бұрын
Try to round your back and really push your shoulders out. Is it possible that you are maybe bending your arms and you bend one arm more and that is why you are bending to the side? Thanks for sharing your experience.

No dice. Sigh. I'm gonna blame the fact that: I did the last few days in my apartment with a very flimsy ottoman as my elevation, so a lot of the practice exercises I couldn't really execute well because I was too worried about the flimsy ottoman flipping or collapsing. Also I ran seven miles right before handstand practice and my arms were tired. Gonna backtrack a couple days, do my practices at the studio with a sturdier elevation, and try again. I didn't touch the wall but I was getting more air time while I tried so that is, in fact, progress.

Hello Rose, try to keep your elbows really straight and make sure you round your back like explained in this video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZjGg2Bsra-pd9k Hope that helps

@NatalieReckert5 жыл бұрын
Hello, you need the strength to jump and the strength in the arms, basically both types of strength you develop through practice. It may be that you need to practice the exercises in this video or the ones before more, before you can try to touch the wall again. It takes time, please don't give up but keep a regular practice, then one day you will find that you can do it. Be patient with yourself and keep practicing.

Make sure your shoulders are above the wrists and invest a bit of time everyday in leg stretches if you have tight hamstrings, that may be the thing holding you back. Film yourself from the side and make sure your shoulders are above the wrists.

Well my foot touched the fall but my head did also 😅
@NatalieReckert4 жыл бұрын
Oh no :) In that case I am quite sure you did not round the back enough. Try to be a tiny bit further away from the wall with your hands. And also try not to crank the head back, you do not need to tilt it back too much in order to still see the floor.

This session can be quite challenging. Go back to the previous videos and practice the prep exercises. Review and improve your jump, the swing of the leg and make sure you are not straightening your back. Filming yourself can help to understand the movement. Be patient and stick with it. We all progress at different speeds. Best wishes
