All the IF stories (Except maybe Sloth) are terrifying, but Greed in particular is just chilling in a way none of the others except Gluttony come close to. While, say, Pride and Wrath show how scary an evil Subaru could be, but they all feel so far removed from canon Subaru that it's more of an abstract fear. Greed, though... It feels like the closest IF to canon, a natural progression of pre/mid-Arc 4 Subaru's mindset, that could very easily have happened. And that's horrifying.

Lovely vid! Only thing I would add is that Clind’s motivation for wanting to destroy Echidna pairs strongly with the theory of him being linked to Hector. We never figured out Hector’s motivation for wanting to kill Echidna, but perhaps he is continuing that same mission when he encounters her again in this IF route.

We know Hector has known Echidna probably longer than Roswaal. He talks about how she aged. My guess is Hector was her protege before Roswaal. She might have had a similar Golden time living situation with Hector and Fox Scarf, then abandoned them. So when Hector arrives and sees Young Roswaal, Ryuzu, and Beatrice he's like she's doing it again. She'll turn you kids into an experiment like she did with me. So I think Hector was coming to sanctuary to stop what Echidna was planning to utilize innocents like Ryuzu being her experimental pawns.

Clind’s reputation being destroyed by Subaru is so scummy. Clind was a hero in this IF story. Also he was a badass, he killed some of the most powerful people in Lugnica when he was focused on killing Subaru. This IF story should pretty much confirm Clind has the Melancholy Witch Factor. I want more information on Clind from the main story, he is one of the most mysterious individuals in Re Zero, he appears human and yet he is 400 years old that is suspicious and he can sense Someone’s soul which is why he serves Roswall which is strange, how on earth can he do that.

Before this novel came out, I believed Gluttony IF was the most messed up one, not anymore just due to the events and mainly Echidna. Clind also being the new holder of the Melancholy WF is pretty much confirmed and makes him a more mysterious person. Also this may not be important or even relevant, but Clind said he like little kids and HECTOOOR did say he liked Echidna when she was younger, and Subaru being called the Lolimancer, and since both Clind and HECTOOOR have the Melancholy WF Subaru might also get it. Just reread the stuff on Clind because of this video, and some interesting facts emerged. Clind tutors Annerose in how to use magic. Puck says Clind is familiar but can't know exactly why. Puck says never trust him/is repulsed instinctively and Clind leaves the hallway where Emilia and Annerose are talking. Clind wanted to intrude but Puck's ears pricked up and sad GTFO. And Clind left obliging Puck. So memory wiped Puck knows something is amiss with Clind. This is from the Emilia's training as a maid story.

Lol at this story’s translation being in the works when you released this video. It’s been 2 years and we still don’t have a full translation. Thankfully, WTC recently release a polished up version of the chapters that had already existed elsewhere, and are now working on the next (and/or last?) three chapters, which includes the Clind details. Can’t wait! The Golden Siblings side story has also since been translated! Still… it’s frustrating that so much content, including important lore within these exclusive side stories have remained unavailable to those of us who can’t read Japanese. It’s not like I can just buy the Japanese copy of the side story, scan the pages and run it through a machine translation and get a vaguely coherent translation of it. Believe me, I tried it with the Apocalypse Girls LN. The quality of the machine translation wasn’t good enough to justify the excruciating amount of work involved. Lots of love to WTC and the other translators who volunteer their time to get us as much content as they can. You’re freaking rockstars. I can only hope that the approach to getting the LN translated to English is one day reevaluated (cough, trash YenPress, cough).

Ah you're worried about translation issues of the Gekkan comic stuff, it's all on internet Archive in summary forms. The translators don't do a word for word translation but most of that content is safe behind the Internet Archive. I'm surprised now that I think about it most of those stories are Annerose/Clind oriented. I guess the publication has a deal with those characters are their territory. Fun Fact it was Annerose who taught Emilia how kissing makes babies.

There's a theory that Emilia cut her hair short because of her jealousy of Rem. As we know in this timeline, Emilia is entirely dependent on Subaru and can't bring herself to understand that Subaru visits Rem each day. Emilia cuts her hair to look like Rem because she thinks Subaru will desire her more that way. I hope this is true - because it works in parallel to the Sloth timeline, where Rem grows out her hair because she still thinks that Subaru loves Emilia deep down, and is scared he'll leave her.

Yeah, it's hard to know really - the barrier was created to stop Hector, ostensibly, but we are not told how it actually would stop him. We see everybody but half-humans pass through it freely (including quarter beastmen like Fred and Garf, Ram who's a full oni, and whatever Roswaal counts as, as well as Subaru who has authorities). Now Hector could be half-human, say he's half oni, and Echidna would know that, so yes, it would affect him, and since nobody would know how it affected a person when the barrier was created, so he wouldn't avoid it, it would cause his soul to leave his body or whatever as Ryuuzu described. But if he isn't half human, then I don't really know how it was intended to stop him unless it has a secondary function we don't know about. Equally, Echidna wouldn't have left a means for the barrier to be removed if she wasn't sure the barrier would stop Hector... It's mysterious.

Given the whole sage cndidate side quest, Subaru may have to kill him if he has a witch factor. This could go one of a few way assuming that’s right. Subaru has to kill him, Subaru finds a way to extract witch factors without killing the host, Subaru only needs the seven witch factors representing the seven deadly sins, or Subaru decides the whole sage thing is bullshit and derails the sidequest. Actually, they might not even have to come into conflict if Clind needs to die, since Clind believes that the world should be the stage of the younger generation after all.

There was a scene in EX 2 where Roswaal potentially used an authority. At a certain point in the story Roswaal's yellow eye flickered and the next moment Sphinx's magic circle was destroyed. The thing is : this magic circle was aimed against magic users. The more adept you are at sorcery, the more susceptible you’ll be to a circle’s effects and since that generation of Roswaal was absolutely unable to use magic, he was able to move and protect Carol. So yes, whatever Roswaal used on a magic circle wasn't magic. Here is an excerpt from EX 2 : [She pointed a finger at the circle and closed one eye. Her yellow iris flickered weirdly, and an instant later, the design under her feet shattered with the sound of breaking glass. As the magic vanished along with it, their breath returned, and their limbs lightened. The angry red sky remembered its normal color, and the world was tinted twilight. Carol got to her feet.] Btw, based on Kasaneru Roswaal and Clind defeated their common enemy long time ago, but Clind decided to continue his cooperation with Roswaal and serve him(for some reason). What do you think of the Moon in Re:Zero, do you think it has any significance in the story? I've noticed in some key moments in the anime that the Moon is often present when there's significant event, for example, the white whale fight, the onclusion of arc 1, the kighting ceremony, etc, though it's not present in every big event, it somehow is, in many of them. My main reason of curiousity is the title of an interlude of Arc 1 "The Moon is Watching". I'm not really sure if it has something to do with RBD as well, cause the respawn point somehow gets updated each time it shows up for example in arc 1 ending, the white whale fight, and events before the first trial (implied mainly through lighting and shadow)

Clint might not actually be human. Also Frederica had a crush on him but then he made a move or he turned her down. Also I remember reading on Twitter that Frederica's sanity is severed badly after clind dies.

Yes, apparently after Clind dies she leaves with Annerose and doesn't seem like she'll come back. I didn't mention that in the video but it was in a tweet from Ice. I think the Frederica thing is partly his general fondness for her and partly his contract with Roswaal - as his employee she counts as his property which he has to protect, whereas Annerose, who is a relative but doesn't work for Roswaal, is not, so Subaru using her as a hostage alone didn't work, even though he is fond of her.

Alright, so I haven’t completely caught up to the WN yet, so there might be something said that goes more in depth on this topic than the Trial of the Present. I’ve wondered, when Subaru dies does he stay in the same world and everything resets, or does he change to an alternate reality where he goes back to his particular save point? If I’m not mistaken, I’m arc 6 he has multiple books of the dead and IMO it wouldn’t make sense for him to have multiple books of he never died in this particular “world” or reality that his is in. So that’s what really pushes me towards the train of thought, that there are in fact no timelines where everyone is crying over subarus death, other than just the thought of it being possible just so he would have to wrestle with that idea in the trials.. care to weigh in Nat?

Subaru trains to use a whip in the time skip between arcs 4 and 5 even in the normal route, so that is not unique to the Greed IF. We'll see him start to use it in season 3 when it eventually happens. He can use the unseen hand, but it makes him feel very uncomfortable, and it never hurts to have some normal physical combat skills. Clind also teaches him parkour.

But if Echidna's fluids doesn't reduce the drawbacks of using unseen hands, it's definitely a good pick. I'll be nitpicking a second : He could increase his overall strengh by training to use bows and carry some daggers, bucklers for defense. I'd be curious to see Subaru Parkouring with a frightened Petra in his arms like a spiderman :3

I really hope it is different in the main story. There has been definitely been tons of inconsistencies and plot contradictions between if stories and the main timeline, as with puck beast of the end not apearing in some if routes as well as the witch of envy just straight up vanishing in gluttony if. Where you sould have to made up some tongue twisting story of why they dont apear. The way I see it, It will probably go a way different route of how things happen in the main story. I like seeing the if routes as something the author wanted to explore in deep without having a deep connection to the main story. Dont misanderstand me i really love them but it is really disapoints me to have something wich could be pretty important spoiled in a if route. It is the same way that it annoys me a little having Al's ability mecanics explained in a side story. But that is more incovinience of not have easy access to that content. And I wonder how it will play out in the novels.

I think a lot of people do overstate the importance of the IF routes on the main story - a lot of people love them so much they want them to be canon (like thinking Emilia's trial of the future references Ayamatsu rather than an actual canon future scene) and I think that's mistaking what the author is trying to do with them, which is explore what if scenarios because it's interesting. However, it isn't rare for them to reveal things - Cecilus and Halibel both appear in IFs long before in the canon story for instance. Yes, it feels unfair that that stuff is hard to find or requires a long wait for us outside of the Japanese market, but if you think about it, the success of an anime is very much judged by the domestic Blu-Ray sales, and that affects things like whether or not a series gets another season, so having a strong incentive to buy the Blu-rays for Japanese fans is important. That's probably why a lot of these bundled light novels have stuff in them that people would be excited to read, rather than just cute fluff side stories.

Yes, I knew about Nagatoro. I might do some Chainsaw Man stuff in the next few weeks - not sure if I'll wait til the season is about to drop though - hard to say. I'm working on another Houseki no Kuni one at the moment.

@@NatalieXHunter apparently the manga for houseki no Kuni is on indefinite hiatus. :o I haven’t seen it but I know the manga arc is on hiatus apparently lol. Also you could cover some of chainsaw man although I’m spoiled on that but excited for the adaptation. I have a pochita plushie (also a rimuru blushing one). It’s kind of poetic for the manga hiatus lol

@@NatalieXHunter I was just wondering some of your thoughts since a lot of people confuse the setting, roughly Imperial Germany, being associated with Naziism. Even though monarchies have a degrees of authoritarianism in their governing practices, its aggravating seeing people who dont know the difference between that and Nazi Germany. Also, S2 was announced in June.

if the real echidna died and doesnt have her witch factor as of now, with echidna2 currently holding it, does that means she didnt died too far from sanctuary to get the witch factor flew to echidna2?

I don't think we can really assume anything like that, given we don't really know how that stuff works - I think the detail was just included to suggest a way Clind might support Roswaal, who wants to revive tomb Echidna, while not supporting the presence of tea party Echidna.

@@NatalieXHunter Tea party Echidna does say she wants one and uses a rare masculine pronoun in Japanese to not know she's walking around in the world till she's ready in two years time. We were lead to believe that is Roswaal/Hector. But if it's Clind it makes sense as well. I always thought Roswaal made the pact with Clind, but it would have been from Echidna's forbidden library gate broken Roswaal A. Discovered how to contract Clind. Did Echidna make a deal with Clind and said assist this simp till I'm brought back to life that's the terms of my contract?

That's an interesting thought. Also, I wonder what history he has with Beako... We don't see them interact much and I can't remember what happened when they do as I wasn't paying that much attention to him at the time - though I seem to remember he wasn't attracted to her despite her loli appearance because he could tell she wasn't a child on the inside or something...

Well, I was just trying to make it interesting to look at since like most of my videos it's all talking! I usually try to make them so nothing important is shown on screen as some people like to just listen to them while they do stuff like a podcast, so to make it not boring for people who watch the videos, I use moving backgrounds and stuff - maybe this one was a bit *too* interesting to look at though haha!

Do you belive that Echidna is purposfully making Subaru's relationships broken i personally do i think the witch of greed should be more than capable enough to save them from their deaths and while doing that at the same time not leave them in this depressed states Maybe i am overextending things to make Echidna look more evil. We know that she lacks some human emotions and empatyh their states probably seems fine for her since Subaru's objective at the time was to save them from their deaths and Echidna did a pretty good job at that in the end Subaru losed no one

It's kinda disappointing that we can't buy this.... seems like a weird decision to make it exclusive to people that buy the Japanese DvDs from stores in Japan.

It's not that weird, given they tend not to care too much about the overseas market in these decisions, and Blu-ray sales are one of the biggest metrics the success of an anime is judged by (affecting a potential next season), so having a very strong incentive for the domestic market to buy the DVD makes good sense for the rights holders...
