The doctor that delivered me in 1953 was Russian. He was my family doctor for 30 years. He used to make house calls in the early days which is unheard of today. He gave me his medical bag when he bought a new one. I was a kid and liked to play doctor. He would come to see my grandmother who had a stroke at the time. She would always smile when he came. She was born in Poland near the Russian border and spoke both languages. She never did learn English after she moved to the USA. Anyway, I became a nurse and took care of Dr. Steven Sorokanich when he was a patient in the hospital where I was working. This was in the 1980's . He died of cancer. We missed him very much. He was a good man. God bless you and take care of you. I will pray for you.

Many Russian intellectuals: doctors, teachers, professors, journalists, writers, scientists, - had to leave collapsing Russian Empire after the revolution 1917. And it was very good for them, because lots of those, who stayed in Russia, were killed by crazy despot stalin later. Now the most intelligent Russian people are emigrating too. But they should not wait too long with this important desicion. Nobody knows, when iron curtain will fall again.

I'm concerned for her mental health. The way she labels things shows signs of a decline into depression. Talking therapy books could help. She has to be careful of viewing things overly negatively about her own country or town. E.g. is she aware bridges are collapsing in the US too! Over 220,000 U.S. Bridges Need Repair, Latest Analysis of Federal Data Finds 45,000 Remain “Structurally Deficient” and in Poor Condition. It's often in the less posh areas away from the cities which the gov neglects. Plenty of people in the US get depressed too over the government, rising prices, inflation, jobs, what they see as racial disadvantages etc, etc, etc. The point about depression is we can stop it but it's important to get there early and spot the signs. Talking theory is a proven and real solution.

Thank you Natasha. I sometimes doubt my own mental health. I wonder when being alone turns to being lonely, when sadness turns into depression. Where are the lines drawn? What difference does it make? We live in a turbulent world. I sometimes lose hope and faith, I see pain and anger caused by hatred and violence. Then I see a younger generation that has glimpsed some freedom. And I also see growing pains. People that grew up never knowing the iron curtain, but are seeing it rise again, but have seen a side their parents or grandparents never saw. The fight now belongs to your generation. Fight for peace? An oxymoron, right? Please be careful, please stay safe. This world needs you, more than you know. Those that have had the opportunity to travel, study, make friends in a larger world, focused on what we all have in common rather than our differences, yes you, help restore my hope and faith in the future. Spaask reminds me very much of dozens of some of the small rural towns in northeastern Alabama. These places can seem incredibly oppressive to the young adults who grow up there, and leaving is usually one of the most cherished dreams for those of us who originate from such backwater towns. It is true in many places around the world, not only in the Far East of the Russian Federation. But the world is enormous, diverse, ready, and waiting for you to come and explore it! You were wise to pay a final visit to your home town and the nearby large city. Perhaps you will never return, there is nothing inherently good or bad about that; none of us bound to the places from which we arise and while we carry with us the vestiges of culture and language we acquired from our socialization, anyone can become any identity they choose within reason. Some people choose to be citizens of the world, and that it seems to me young lady is something like the path you will find most fulfilling for yourself! But in any event, it is good that you captured these videos of your final visits home. Even if you never wish to return, you can always look back and remember and even when memories are not necessarily "good," we grow from the recollection.

I respect your point of view, but I couldn’t tolerate living in a city. American cities are violent, intolerant, small minded, oppressive hellholes. I’m also from a small town in Alabama, but in Northwestern Alabama. I love my hometown and still live in the area, but not in my hometown. Everyone is different.

Just for talking.. in all countries there's a place like the one she showed us I am Italian precisely Rome even if my city is very rich in culture and history from the ancient Romans to the Renaissance .. there are areas outside the heart of the city where the decay is absurd. life here is certainly not the same as that in remote areas in Russia but we must also understand that Russia is the largest nation in the world St. Petersburg will certainly be more beautiful than a remote village in Siberia .. New York itself is beautiful only in central part already exiting by car from the nerve center of the city is not the same thing
@cassidybrash42432 жыл бұрын
Same here for Australia. I live in the city and love it, and there's also many beautiful and fantastic rural places, but very rundown/remote towns still exist. I think a lot of the issue is isolation, where in very remote places it's hard to get proper access to resources, and if you need a hospital it can take a long time to get there. The benefit AND downside to cities is that everything is close: important things like hospitals, shops and cultural centers, but also lots of other people, hahaha.

@@Beachgirl1 I have lived in Alabama for 25 years and most of this state is a shithole. Huntsville is very nice and so is south Birmingham Homewood/Hoover/Festavia area. Same for rural central/south Texas. The town I live in has a population of 3000 and there is nothing to do here. A lot of bridges have been collapsing where I live in America as well. Our infrastructure was built so long ago and our government does not keep up with maintenance. A large, important bridge that was the only connection between one part of the city and the other has not allowed cars on it in over a year at this point (the West Seattle bridge)-- our city is built on an isthmus and now the only way to get to Seattle is a ridiiiiiiiculous drive. A few years ago a bridge collapsed on a major highway by my hometown (I-5 Skagit River) and the cars fell into the river!!!!

The human experience is the same all over the world. Superficial differences, that’s all. Everyone want to just get on with their life, enjoy their friends and family, and feel safe+secure. That only changes when people start believing the news and politicians telling them that they need to fear the “other”. People are the same all over, with good hearts and gentle natures, the same passions, fears, jobs, hobbies, etc. Cant let flags and rhetoric fool us into believing in the “other”.
