That Fender '63 pickup would definitely be my preference. The Duncan does sound ballsy, but the Fender has a more even and complex tone that I liked and heard in every clip. Well done!

I kind of agree. Both are great. The Fender has a sweetness to it. Also more accurate for classic style jams and songs if that’s what your going for.

Thanks for this comparison. As far as sound goes, extremely subtle difference, would make more difference moving the picking hand forward or back a few inches; I certainly wouldn't go through the expense in time and money replacing pickups if my bass was equipped with either of those.

I would also swap the BA bridge for a Fender vintage style bridge.
@OliverTobyn3 жыл бұрын
I probably would have, since some friends who own it did the same. Unfortunately the lacquer seemed to have binded with the bridge, and removing it is impossible without pulling off a huge chunck of finish

Duncan sounds congested. You ought to try Klein pickups, I bet the 1962 Epic would knock your socks off. It would be great if you added muting in yr future a2b's. I almost always mute my P, even with the rare set of nickel round wounds.
@thecappy3 жыл бұрын
Not sure how you got those PV 63 pickups to sound this good. Mine always sound too dark even with tone all the way up. I’ve never tried them in an ash body though(if you believe in that). I prefer Lollar, or Arcane.
@OliverTobyn3 жыл бұрын
Could it be the strings? I used Dunlop 50-110 Stainless steel strings in this video, which usually sound brighter than the usual nickel plated ones most bass players use. Not sure how much the ash has an impact on that, but I must say that the Nate Mendel is an overall bright sounding bass

Hi. Is the neck of this bass more slimmer and thinner than the standard Precision bass wide neck ? Is the neck of Steve Harris West Ham bass signature more wider than the Nate Mendel bass ? Thanks

I actually find the Nate Mendel and Steve Harris necks pretty similar. They have the same nut, same radius, just one is maple and one rosewood. I'd say the Steve Harris is slightly beefier though

@@LucashtagMusic it's quite stable on both I'd say. As long as you don't exaggerate the string gauge on the Geddy Lee as it has quite a thin neck. 45-105 is already pushing it but doable. I personally like even 50-110 on the Nate Mendel

SPB-3. @@stan0869 Hi there! Thanks for watching! The PV63 is a great pickup if you want a warm vintage tone, and I prefer it to the CS62 I did in another video. If you want something more modern and punchy and are undecided between the SPB-3 and Di Marzio Model P, I'd go with the Di Marzio. It has a nice punchier sound and lots of midrange. On this particular bass I prefer the PV63, it just feels better somehow
