The chords sounded best on the stock bridge, more alive. The heavier bridges delivered just plain frequencies (IMHO). This video has a great concept, it really gives you a chance to compare. Thanks! If I would wish anything it would be to do the comparisons "blindfolded". I get a bit biased by the specs, looks, and some prejudice. Maybe that's just me... :-)

❤love it! I’ve been using sh77 on my thunderbird for a couple years and absolutely love them. Just bought a pbass and a fresh pack for it. Also have my eye on the sh sansamp. I’m a huge maiden fan, but that’s not why I use this stuff (I’m in a ska band😆)I just think it’s good. Great playing man! 🤘🏻

They are really really close… no one live would ever tell the difference and most of musicians wouldn’t either. I would take the quarter pounders bcuz they sound better with a pick. They are brighter and scooped. But not by a lot!

I typically change them when they start to make my hands smell bad. That dull metallic mixture of sweat and copper smell. Gets annoying having to wash my hands every time I pick it up to noodle when bored.

Great video comparison. Doesn't that high mass bridge make somewhat of a difference? I personally do not like them and prefer stock bridges.

I know Steve has flat wounds on his main bass live. I had the rare chance to play it at one of the shows. You want "fat clank" without "too bright clank"

Should use the SAME settings for both pickups.. clean.. NO added effects... not a great comparison. It's like comparing a Les Paul guitar, to a Strat. TOTALLY different sounds.

@@randymeyer9785 I did. Same setup, exact same settings on the pedal for both pickups, same gain, and also clean with no added preamp. What else do you need?

Experience after longer period of time of using them? Durability compared to traditional Flats which could last lifetime?
@OliverTobyn23 күн бұрын
They tend to rust way easier than other strings. And so far they're the only sets of strings I've actually had a string break on me in the last 6-7 years or so, and I've used two sets. Apart from that, they do seem to retain that brightness for longer compared to normal flats

If you ever consider modding your bass, i modified mine to also have the inner and outer coil singled. Outer gives a tone closer toba jazz bass and inner has a nice punch and is beconing my go to.

Man that’s tuff call, both sound great. I think because most of us back off the mids on our amp I’m going with the 62 . I’s rather have to add mids on the amp rather than backing off looking for that sweet spot if that makes sense. Great video, thanks.

DP has definitely darker tone overall.. I have owned one in the past and although it was a great pedal I prefer SH-1 for a better pronounced midrange .. I guess it makes more sense with precision pickup tone .
@FreddysFretsАй бұрын
The sustain test was very interesting. The length of the note sustaining was actually a bit decieving....they were all approximately equal. Listening on a high end studio monitor system with subwoofer (Meyer HD1) the Badass sustained the low frequency information of the note much longer than the others. That's a win right there.

The SPB3 is marketed as a rock pickup. It sounds fine by itself, but I find it very loose, flabby, scooped in the mids, and dark in a rock mix. I think it is better suited for hip hop, dance music, and other bass heavy styles with very simple lines. The SPB3 makes me think of "What if Seymour Duncan made an Invader guitar pickup for bass?" In comparison, the SPB4 sounds like the low end is a bit more controlled. For metal bass at high tempos, I usually use vintage spec pickups and increase the output from the amp. I think it produces much more clarity than trying to clean up overwound, bass heavy pickups. Thank you for your helpful videos, Mr. Tobyn.
@OliverTobynАй бұрын
Thanks for your comment! Yeah I used to like the SPB3s a lot when I was younger and maybe more "ignorant" 😂 they just seemed over the top in everything and for some reason that seemed better to me. The SPB4s on the other hand are more balanced and controlled, yeah. The 3s have their own unique personality which can be hard to change into something else.
