I really enjoy your stories and tales of the Appalachian mountains, Jared, having lived both in the Appalachians and foot hills most of my life... As for the spirit the young man saw, I suspect it was not Native American, but more likely that of an drifter or possibly that of a fugitive from the law that met his demise in that cave.

Another great story. I think it was a early traveler/settler going through that area and was using the cave for shelter and passed from natural caused or an injury. Because the image that was seen had a beard rules out native american because they never had beards. Also the writing being in english seems to say it was not indian.

Hi Jared! Glad to see you felt well enough to send this story out tonight! It is certainly a very scary one!😲 It also touches on one of the few things that I will not investigate; a cave! They are one of the few things I am just NOT interested in! (Of course I have my reasons!) Based on Doug's story, I'd say that it was not a Native American found in the cave but I don't think it was a pioneer either. The tin cans and the writing that got illegible as he grew too feeble to go after food tell Nate's story. I believe that it was either a man from the depression era or somebody running from the law. As they were metal cans, the earliest tins widely used in the US were during the Civil War, so he could've been a deserter but I doubt it. Nate could be white or black but he was old and hiding so a soldier is not my first choice. The period between 1860 and 1949 would be when Nate died in that cave. People forget that there was a depression after WWII also. The Appalachians were hit very hard then. Dating a can would probably tell you more about when (type of metal) and possibly who as cans had factory location stamps until the 1950s or so. I wonder if anybody ever tried? 🤔 I hope they retrieved the fellow and buried him. All deserve to rest in peace. Y'all take care now! May God bless you and yours. 😊

Hey Nancy!!! 👋😃 Thank you so much for watching. Im the same way.. I don't like caves! I'm always afraid it'll cave in on me lol. You be right about ole Nate and about the era! I live in the mountings of southern WV. I can be in Virginia or Kentucky in 45 minutes to either state. There are all kinds of “mountain breaks”. Places where underground mining has occurred causes the mountain to split a little bit. Bears use them as dens many times. I have often wondered what were inside of those breaks.

Hm. I think old Nate was making a point to the young fella that it WAS still his cave. Cans and paper certainly sounds like someone had made the cave their home for whatever reason. I really don't think the bones were any of the first nations people. There would have likely been grave goods and more than one body if it was. But I could be wrong. Glad you're feeling well enough to post. Blessings and all good things to you. Phoenix 😁

*I suspect it was a homeless drifter who made a home of that cave. As to the rest, I have seen and felt some troubling things in my life, so I wouldn't be surprised if a spirit resides there.*

I think it was "Old Nate", but not an old Native American. I like the early settler theory, or maybe an old man running for his life from the law or from criminals or highway men of some kind that were after him. Maybe he had taken shelter in the cave to get away, or maybe he had lived there for a while in winter or something. Maybe he got in there and ran out of wood or flint or matches and got trapped in the dark and couldn't find his way back to the exit. But, he died there somehow, and no one ever found him. Possibly, no one around that area ever knew him. But sometime or other, he had carved his name, "Nate" into the stone so that someone, somewhere, sometime would know that he had been there.

Nate was probably the name of the man whose bones were found in that cave. He may have been hiding in that cave, or he could have lived there. He could have been put there, after he was dead. Nate may have been a child who played in that cave at one time. If they did not keep the bones and teeth (a DNA test cannot be done to try and solve the mystery). What became of the bones and teeth?

Even if that ghost looked like a settler, it's important to know that white people have had and still do have children with native tribes people. Lots of folks look as pale as fine China but are still members of a tribe. You never know what race someone is.

🙏Join The Prayer If You Would🙏 My guess is it was an early Appalachian man who needed emergency shelter. Since no artifacts of daily life were found I don't think it was home. The more I ponder with my heart I come to believe he was wounded by man or beast, escaped, crawled in and died. I was terrified by the 3 inch closeness and trying to grab hold of the caver's pant leg but that adds to my thought and I feel the spirit wanted to be known. An attempt at, "My name is.....and I died here". For me it takes the story from spooky to heartbreaking. If I could have I'd put a plaque on the cave's outside rock: Not known by name This poor restless soul Died alone and lonely Let our prayers to Christ Guide him to God our Father Who knows all our names And grant him eternal peace 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Amen to that 🙏! Yeah that was DEFINITELY scary but like you said, it's possible that was his way of saying Hey look what happened to me or look at what somebody did to me! Kinda like a cry for help. God bless him 🙏 What a lot of folks don't know is I always say a prayer for the ones in these Haint stories. I pray for the people and the spirits for the Lord to guide them or possibly forgive them. Thanks so much for watching sister. God bless and have a good'n 🙏

@@JaredKingTV "A Cry For Help" Oh Jared, that would be a powerful sad title to a story, I've no doubt you'll come across one someday that will deserve it. Hopefully it will have a blessed twist at the end as many mountain stories do. Thank you for sharing what did not surprise me about you Jared, that you pray for the souls in many of the stories shared. Souls that may rest in peace for finally being acknowledged; you're a good man. Although I'm still new to the dear community you created I've had the pleasure of enjoying many lovely prayers shared by your gracious neighbors in the comments. One online joy is being able to return time and again to re-watch favorites, often seeing things previously missed. Reading more comments feels like popping into a neighbor's social gathering, especially delightful when a thread gets going, staying lively and friendly. You've created a lovely mountain cabin porch feel for one and all to gather on, listen share and be ever so welcome. Thank you Jared⚘️

No telling, but our teeth and facial structures are very different from those of white folks. I'm not an archeologist but I can tell the difference between them if I'm looking at remains. Maybe the bones were from a white man who was a hermit, not right in the head, or had committed some bad deed and was hiding out to avoid getting hung and ended up dying there from illness, starvation, snake bite, or whatever. If the bones were from a Native, there's no telling why he was in there, but many hid out during the Removal and stayed hidden to keep from being forced to leave the land of their birth. He might have been old and frail and wouldn't have made that long hard journey as it was done in the middle of the harshest winter on record (and done so just to kill even more Natives along the way) so he or his family hid him in that cave and there he perished.
