Three baby raccoons befriend a fisherman at a creek in Wooster, Ohio. The extremely playful critters crawled on top of the man and followed him around. Encounters between wild raccoons and humans are common throughout the United States, but what makes this scene heartbreaking is the possibility that baby raccoons are orphans. A second fisherman who came upon the scene not only fed the raccoons a dead fish, but built them a shelter near where they were found.

525Lines a verification search reveals that racoons would actually probably relocate them in response to a potential threat. usually animals won't abandon young, if they have been alive for a while because there is bonding and genetic incentive.

WOW! When I was seven, my family rescued three baby raccoons. they used to sleep with my sister and myself. we taught them to return to the wild, successfully. but even as wild adults they would occasionally come running out of the forest and jump in or arms. that was a beautiful memory. it was nice to see this! Thank you.

That's a crazy story. I wish you could have some form of documentation and some clips so we can watch. Is it true that raccoons were starting to cause hell around the house as this video claims? I thought you COULD domesticate raccoons to adjust since they are so well adaptable to a lot of environment but I was not aware the consensus is to NEVER have them as pets BECAUSE they destroy the house and environment. I did hear raccoons kill for sport as well so it might be problematic if you have other pets that are smaller.

laxjoh you can tame them it's just not easy, or you can build them an outside habitat and they can more easily learn to stay in the yard/area. if raised as an outside racoon they are almost like a cat. if raised inside, it's like a ferret on steroids

My grandmother had a pet racoon from when it was found abandoned as a baby all the way up until it died of old age. Never had a problem with it. It absolutely loved her.

My cousins used to have baby raccoons as pets. You had to get used to all sorts of noises at night and spilled stuff in the morning. They were fantastic, however as they reached about one year of age and started to hit puberty they could turn sort of mean so you had to let them go on their way. Of course this was in the woods so they just moved on with their lives.

Heather: Yes, if a raccoon knows a place it can get food and won't be chased but even be treated well it will return often, even daily. Treat a raccoon with respect and give it freedom and it can be a great friend.

bitsnpieces11 From what my mom told me this raccoon acted like a dog. It cuddled with her and she taught it tricks. It stayed inside with her like a dog. She's had pet skunks to. She has a way with animals. I think it's a gift. She can literally tame any wild animal. They may try to eat me or you alive. Give it to my grandmother and it'll love all over her. Seen it for myself when I got older.

Nooo!!! Negative on the raccoon kicking, they'll chew you up! We had a redbone hound get half his face chewed off by a 12 lbs raccoon. It may be hard to believe, but a raccoon can be a savage little beast. But pet ones can be more loving than a cat, I dunno, but in the wild I don't mess with them. I go night fishing and when the raccoons come out to dig clams and eat crayfish, I give them plenty of room.

Good argument. I made a point that raccoons still are tough to domesticate and still don't make good pets on average but I give the same argument that humans are also terrible "pets" to raise and they usually are the worst when it comes to being destructive and impossible to tame.

My mom's friend's daughter has a pet raccoon. She found him abandoned when he was a baby. :( Now he's happy and healthy! :) He also uses a litter box like a cat! 😂

So they can be domesticated? This video claims to NEVER have them as pets because they are so destructive. Did you have to adjust your lifestyle to match the raccoons? I always haerd raccoons adjust REALLY well to changing environment so I assumed raccoons could be domesticated easily and harmlessly.

Well, she found him when he was still a newborn because his mom abandoned him. So, I think they can be domesticated. But only at a young age, I guess. And I don't own him, my mom's friend's daughter does. :)

Was walking in the park today and came across at least 7-10 baby raccoons. No mom in sight. Each had different faces and features they were adorable. I kept my distant and watched as they tried climbing trees and playing. I always have my camera and got some great shots and plan to visit them again soon.

6 skunks came up to me out of the bushes during a hike a few years back. They were so curious and sniffy. As it turned out, 5 were yearlings and the other was their mom. Despite my frozen posture, she started to get agitated and tried to lead off the kids, who wouldn't. In a moment of panic, I realized the squirt was just seconds away and turned and bolted - perhaps just in time. Memorable.

My aunt and uncle had a pet racoon. She was really awesome. Came from the woods as a baby to hang with their dog and cat, and to play of course. She was so cool. She just decided to go back to the woods one day as she got older (I'm guessing ro either die or be with another racoon). Now my friend's family had a pet racoon but it did turn mean as it got older so they let it loose into the wild.

My friend keeps a raccoon as a pet and has almost no problems with him. He is very loving and is indeed an unusual pet but I absolutely love him. He get's odd attention when company is over but it's the cutest because of how friendly he is to them.

I had one as a pet in Escondido, CA. She was a wild racoon that used to come up on the back patio at night. I named her tri pod because she only had two hind legs and a mangled right front leg. Her left front leg was ok. I felt sorry for her so I would feed her cat food. We bonded and she became an awsome pet. After about two years I moved to AZ and haven't seen her since. It's too bad I couldn't bring her with me.

So cute. We were camping last week and 4 baby raccoons came by curiously as I sat down on a bench. They climbed on the bench beside me and were scoping out the area. I really wanted to pet them but stopped myself from doing so. I got up and quietly left because mama raccoon was probably nearby heh, wonderful creatures :)
