Hey Mom, I'm one of the nice guys--I'm on *your* side. I won't put you & your babies into a cage & drown you. What a good Momma. Extraordinary footage. Glad no one was bitten. It reminds me of my Mom defending me against my ex's sister & once while in Europe, as a foreigner I had to routinely register with the police one of whom responded in a slightly un-koshered manner to something we said & my mom overreacted & didn't stop yelling at them in full voice in front of the police station. They kindly requested for her to lower her tone because she was embarrassing them, but instead she just ramped it up. When all was said & done, she wasn't over with what she had to say & wrote to the chief of police who later came to our door begging forgiveness . . . What a mom will do to defend her adult cub of 27 years old at the time . . . In any case, this was scary. A raccoon growled at me early in the morning while eating the stray cat food I put out. I had a 800 lumens flashlight in his eyes--no wonder. I avoid the area in the morning. Otherwise, I have gotten inches (without knowing it) from raccoons without any hint of their discomfort with me or any objections. An ounce of prevention is a pound of cure . . . So happy no one was injured. Hopefully Mom was able to stay safe with her babies. Great Mom who defended her babies & cared so much for them.

I know this video was "dramatized" for TV, and I understand that. Just like always though, you treated the animals humanely and respectfully. Thank you for that. I've watched a LOT of raccoon videos, and I've even personally interacted (and hand-fed) several raccoons at my previous home (none of whom were ever aggressive, destructive, or invasive). I've NEVER seen a raccoon this aggressive. This is VERY unusual, even for a mother raccoon. I can only assume that the homeowner did "something" before calling you guys that made this momma act so aggressively. In the end..... great job as usual.
@tylerburnham174 жыл бұрын
Not unusual at all. The mama raccoon naturally has the mothers instinct response to defend her babies. I'm a wildlife control operator as well see it every time if you get in between most species of animals especially raccoons.. Raccoons pound for pound very tough to deal with not to be taken lightly if need to get their young.
@BennyB55554 жыл бұрын
ML L I agree - I have lots of green space behind my house and lots of animals including Raccoons, squirrels, opossum, deer, ducks etc. My raccoons have never acted this way. I can sit on my deck and read while the mama and babies come out to play or drink water (maybe a few nuts) ha Anyway - highly unusual for sure!
@mll72504 жыл бұрын
@@tylerburnham17 Sure.... I can understand that.... which is why I think that lady did something to scare her before calling the removal specialists. I had several raccoons that visted nightly... often more than once per night. Some were skiddish... some were willing to take food from my hand. One of them had 4 babies.... and even brought her babies onto my porch to eat....with me sitting right there. Of course, if I moved or got up, she and her babies would run away..... but neither she, nor any of the other raccoons ever got "aggressive" at all. That's why this video was so suprising to me. I know they "can" be aggressive, but unless provoked, threatened, or cornered.... they generally aren't.

@@mll7250 you really shouldnt be feeding wildlife thats how you condition them to humans
@mll72504 жыл бұрын
@@realSanta420 Agreed, to an extent. I never attempted to "pet" or "touch" them. I also never allowed my pets to be near them... just in case. In the 2 years that I had "regular" raccoon visitors... they never once got aggressive, attempted to get in my home, or destroyed my garbage.... so I never saw them as a "nuisance". Had they ever done it, I would have put a stop to it. But.... as it was.... they dropped in once or twice per evening, I gave them some cookies... and they left. I never saw any harm in it.

Gates Wildlife, love your videos and you always go out of your way to let people know that these are gentle animals just trying to raise and take care of their little ones. Raccoons are one of the smartest mammals on the planet and they really are sweet gentle animals that unfortunately have a bad label of just being a nuisance. I started feeding a female Raccoon going on EIGHT years now that we have named Regina and it took a LONG TIME to earn her trust. Since then she has had two litters of babies and brings them up with her to the house to eat. The second litter of babies actually started to crawl up into my lap to eat their food. Very sweet animals and just like people they ALL have very unique personalities for sure. Some of them are more rambunctious and mischievous and some more loving but they are all very sweet. It's sad that you usually always hear about rabbies anytime you hear about Raccoons - INTERESTING FACT - In ALL OF HISTORY there has been ONLY ONE REPORTED CASE EVER of a Raccoon transmitting rabbies to a human, I'll say it again, ONLY ONE IN ALL OF HISTORY . . . ONLY ONE!

In this video ( unlike their other videos) they didn’t do a good job with giving back the babies to the mama. They did it too close and did it in a risky way. They could have just put the baby one by one the roof top and on grass for her to get them. The mama would hear the babies cries and would come out to get them. They didn’t need to get so close to where she put her other babies near the shed.

This is why someone invented a tranquilizer gun. You pop the mom with a light sedative, then relocate the whole family to the woods miles away. Far less stress to the mom, far less chance of the babies getting injured during extraction, and zero chance of the mom returning to the attic with 'em.

It is important that people see exactly how wildlife control companies work so they don't call the wrong one. They just uploaded a video where babies died due to a different company's incompetence and Gate's Wildlife Control managed to save the last one. This is also a good way to learn about animal's behavior, I don't think it is a big deal. These animals are used to humans, most of the raccoons in these videos don't even fightback. This particular video was directed by natgeo so I'm sure they purposefully chose the most dramatic footage.

Two weeks ago, it was chaos in our house, raccoon family in our fireplace. The job is not yet finished as the pest control guys have to actually stand in the fireplace to clean and disinfect the chimney flue and also from the top down from the roof. Pest control crews charge anywhere from $ 75.00 to $ 250.00 an hour. Since the evacuation of the raccoon family, we are now hears clicking and popping sounds in the attic. Now what!!! Our house is well kept, no debris around, but neighbor has a junk yard with OVERGROWN trees, trees are an invite for animals- not good.
