What terrifies me most of crocodiles is their patience. In Australia tourists are told not go near some waters at the same time & place each day. If you keep a routine a crocodile will see this and take it's time to be in position to strike at the right moment.

@titus they are not “considerably” larger, however they are larger. They are absolutely not more “aggressive” than Nile crocs though. A lot more recorded attacks per year on humans from Nile crocs than Salties. Yes, you can say villages from Africa rely on the water much more, but that still doesn’t make my statement any less true.

23:18-23:32 & 24:11-25:41 I recognize that footage anywhere. It’s from that National Geographic Documentary from the mid 1990S “Thunder Dragons”. I don’t think Thunder Dragons is out on DVD in America these past many years. That goes double for a dozen in a half of the other National Geographic Documentaries on Modern & Prehistoric Animals I have in mind that also have yet to be released on DVD in America after all these years as well.

I once took a dip in a small tributary about 1/2 mile from the Nile. It was a cool misty morning and the Hippos, as usual were extremely vocal and you couldn’t swing a dead cat without hitting one, I mean they were everywhere! On my way out of the water I noticed I had gotten a little too close to two males that were about to face off, I eased around and before I could say boo, he was 4’ in front of me, all I could do was ease up behind him and he went under, I gently eased onto his back and slowly grabbed two handfuls of meat just behind his head. He was so focused on the other bull that he never knew I was riding him like a bronco cowboy, I sat there 5 minutes and he started to back away down river, he got close to the edge and I easily kicked off his hip, grabbed a small bunch of native flora and eased out of the river. He turned around and bellowed and I think he just then figured out what had happened.. I was very lucky.

In Kenya we had to ml a huge Nile crocodile that kept eating people who would go to fetch water...the death roll and the fiht it put up was no joke...but hippos remain the most feared...their speed and jaws are not to be played with

one of the more remarkable parts of this to me happened when the gazelles or a similar species, jumps straight into the river while they can see the crocodiles swarming and waiting...are they just dumb inherently or was the need to cross the river so much that they couldn't control the urge and jumped to their death? I just found it so odd for an animal to walk straight into deaths grasp when everything i know tells me these animals more than likely have fear of crocodiles just through instinct.....anyhow...fascinating stuff and so brutal, life is to be cherished!
