In Nepal we have great respect and bhakti on red and white macchindranath and macchindranath is equally worshiped by Buddhist and Hindu ...we have procession of Machhindranath .... it is one of the greatest religious events in the city and the longest chariot festival celebrated in the country... Macchindranath is a guru of Gorakhnath...the legend says the country is made by the blessing of Gorakhnath whoes cave is still in Gorkha ...Jai Gorakhnath...

Atman is the Naath of this mind, body and ego. And one who surpasses this and identifies with the Atman may also be considered Nath. Adinath, Matsyendranath, Gorakhnath etc are. those who realised Atman and have become one with it by doing a set of specific yogic practices. Thank your for highlighting how some of the practical aspects of Yoga were revived by the Natha Sampradaya, which were otherwise subdued in the principal Upanishads, Yoga Sutras, and Adi Shankaracharya bhashyas, through the classic texts of yoga, like Gheranda Samhita, Hatha Yoga Pradipika and the Shiva Samhita.
