I watched his SP in 2018 & didnt watch the LP in 2018. I think I jinxed his SP in 2018, so I didnt watch his SP in 2022. I only saw his programs "after" he skated. I'm so glad he skated for his Olympic enjoyment & not stress or weight of the U S. (I still had fingers crossed🤣)🤞👍

I feel like it needs to be acknowledged more that Nathan skated near flawlessly the most technically difficult short program in the history of the sport TWICE during the Olympics. I would say putting a quad lutz-triple toe combination in the second half of the program is crazy risky if it didn’t look so easy for him 😂
@L1623VP
@L1623VP 2 жыл бұрын
Aside from Jason Brown, who had no quads in his programs, Nathan is the only men's skater at the Olympics to skate two clean programs back-to-back with all positive GOE on all elements and no deductions. Actually, he skated three clean programs counting the team SP, which means he landed 9 quads at the Olympics. Amazing.

@L1623VP
@L1623VP 2 жыл бұрын
@@al.m765 You missed my point. The 1F in the LP is not considered a mistake by the judges, and therefore, there is no deduction for that. In fact, Nathan received a +1.63 GOE on that combination. He only lost points in base value because it ended up being an easier jump at the end instead of the triple, and probably would have gotten a higher GOE, but that's not considered a "mistake" with regard to the judging. Had he completed the 3F, he would have earned 5-8 more points in higher base value and GOE, and nearly matched or slightly surpassed his own LP world record. Yes, he said in an interview that his first thought after finishing his LP was that darned 1F. Oh well, Nathan at 99% perfection is still head and shoulders above everyone else.

@@Gemini530 Fanyus live on their own planet, where Nathan apparently hates skating, doesn't care about artistry, has worse jumping technique than Yuma Kagiyama (legit sth a fanyu argued on twitter) and deserves 6s and 7s in PCS. The reality is that Yuzuru hasn't been able to keep up with Nathan for years and now even his teammates have overtaken him. He's gradually fallen from 1st in the world to 2nd, then 3rd, then 4th, but fanyus still think it's because he gets robbed by the judges and not because he literally can't land his jumps the way he used to.

Aside from the jumps, which are fantastic, I love the steps and turns that go with the counter-melody. The nuances and musicality are wonderful.

ITA. He never stops interpreting the melody and the 3-beat with his skates and body movements. I don't understand the persistent "all jumps, nothing in-between" criticism some people still throw at him. Are they blind or what?! (Well, maybe they're blinded by his blindingly superb jumps, but still)

I have to disagree. If we're talking about the program as a whole, this is probably the most unbalanced program among the top skaters at Beijing. It's completely focused on the jumps, the rest of the program is basic (and there's a lot of two-feet skating, like A LOT, his feet are glued to the ice) and there aren't any difficult entrances or exits on the jumps, cause that makes the jumps unstable and if you're betting everything on them, you want to be (close to) perfect. If we're talking about jumps layout, then yes, probably is one of the most difficult. Nathan is a really great jumper, his programs are fun... he could aim higher, but I don't think we will see him anymore.

How he rises from the abyss of the disappointing and atrocious short program at Peongchang Olympics four years ago to this elegant and masterful world-record-breaking short program is absolutely inspiring.

Such a well-deserved gold medal at these Olympics. After winning in Beijing, Nathan goes back to school to complete his degree as a 6-time undefeated National Champion, 3-time undefeated Grand Prix Final Champion, 3-time undefeated World Champion, and Olympic Champion. Amazing. The. Best. EVER. Those lists would be even longer if the '20 Worlds and '20 and '21 GPFs hadn't been cancelled.

as Nathan's coach, Rafael had said 6:3:1 " don't you think it's a beautiful number " Nathan's may most likely ain't come back competitively.😢 as Davis & White had said on missing 2018 Pyeongchang "we have our GOLD" July2022

@@jeri7bPLG I hope he doesn't come back because I want him to go out on top the way Yagudin did. That's very hard to say because I miss him so much already, but I want Nathan to leave us with the last image of his competitive career as the greatest skater in the history of the sport, holding all the big titles simultaneously and in his prime. Some skaters like Hanyu stay in too long, and we watch them degrade because of age and injury. I don't want that for Nathan. Even he can't escape biology and aging. Nathan pushed men's skating so far, so fast, that in a 5-quad LP world, the men are aging out sooner because the physical demands are so much higher. The only skater that has the ability to continue skating to Nathan's level might be Ilia Malinin, but we'll have to see how he develops. I remember quite a few new young hot skaters who burst onto the scene and then didn't deliver; they didn't become the "next big thing".

Divine Aria Divine Aria 4 days ago (edited) You're entitled to your opinion. I personally love his performance. I get a sense of nostalgia and longing. I see so much beauty and grace in Nathan's movements. The simplicity of his costumes really allow for the viewer to focus on the performance. He has beautiful arms, wrist, and hand placements...nice straight arms and legs. Nice details in his upper body movement. Nothing is awkward or out of place. There's so much fluidity, and the way his feet caresses the ice feels like a dream. The step sequence is absolutely brilliant. We can see how agile Nathan's footwork is. Everything is effortless, including the most difficult jumps he does.

LB2007 ITA. He never stops interpreting the melody and the 3-beat with his skates and body movements. I don't understand the persistent "all jumps, nothing in-between" criticism some people still throw at him. Are they blind or what?! (Well, maybe they're blinded by his blindingly superb jumps, but still)

I know!! I love watching his hands. Few skaters extend their body lines to the finger tips. His hands alone are expressive. Some other skater (🤭) to me, has just noodle arms and tends to use his arms to just punctuate the music notes. That’s not emotion or interpretation to me. What Nathan does, is.

ITA. Nathan's sublime performance fully expresses the nostalgic and emotional melody and lyrics of this chanson. ( I looked up the French words in mon dictionnaire. ) I think it natural his program component score be high.

Mostly fanyus and some of Jason's fans, they'd expect a hydroblading, a Biellmann spin... or something like that. They're so ingrained with those 2 elements, without them transitions seem empty. Those elements are not mandatory because there are others in transition; athletes can choose to do some or others depending on their individual styles.
