Some of my favourite clips.
It includes people talking about Gore Vidal, then Gore Vidal on Gore Vidal. This is followed by Gore Vidal on social issues, then on the Presidents, followed by his views of writers. This is all ended by his views on where he lived, and obituaries.

He did make it an art of getting underneath people's fingernails without leaving any bodies behind, unlike FUX and talk radio.

I do say ol chap I like the way he points out rome and new england as some of the more sophisticated societes in the world but Naples and Fall River can fall into that delapidated catagory, but we all have pros and cons and have allegences to where we live.

Vidal and Watts would say, "Read a lot more books. Old books."

Thank you for that. However, I am intending on cleaning it up, and of course adding some more clips.

I have not got the whole of the Cavett program, nor the Carson, they were part of another documentary. The South Bank show is on youtube, just type in Gore Vidal Southbank.

Bravo! What's interesting is that I used to laugh, as a puerile snob, at Merv Griffin. But look how much rope he would give Vidal to untwine. Today a man of that type gets five minutes, if that.

I do not think he is saying that at all. He highlights some of the positives of the founding fathers of the US, and what he liked about Rome and Ravello. Since this is the case you are ofcourse correct, one will highlight the areas one knows and one likes, that is just natural. As for 'that dilapidated catagory', what an odd use of the word.
