Nathaniel Drew's content is self-improvement with actual honesty, intimacy, grounded-ness, life, and humanness. This is why I think this channel shines the most among the rest. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth lumping his "content" as "self-improvement" but, yeah, his messages and stories are just something very special in the age of content that pushes people like they're supposed to be machines and make them feel guilty for some flaw they have in their productivity and subjective shortcomings. Nathaniel Drew just reminds me again that I'm human, and that the things I'm looking for often aren't what they seem to be, and that the real things may be just right in front of me the whole time. Nathaniel Drew is a meditation. Nathaniel Drew is a friend. Not a channel, but a friend who really impacts how I see my life, and how I love the people around me. I'm really glad that he and Thomas (& Yes Theory) are his friends now since I always watched both Yes Theory and Nathaniel and I kind of lumped both of these channels in the same bubble of "channels that actually see the experience of life with whole heart". And yeah, thank you guys so much.

*Something that helped me recently was musings on* "If I had one year left to live." I wrote this journal entry about what I'd like the rest of my life to look like, if the expiration date was one year from today. The results shocked me. I realized out of everything I'd want to do, none of them were increased thrills or risky choices because "if it's all going to end soon anyways, what's the point?" No; they were all things I want to do TODAY but am afraid of engaging on. I'd start a podcast. I'd have conversations with people about mental health. I'd open dialogue with people I've hurt and want forgiveness from. I'd simply be a better human being. Now the challenge is "waking up" and realizing that I don't need to think I'm going to die to live the life I want to live. I simply need to take the steps that future me (and younger me) is begging for. We don't make choices out of fear -- that's fine, it's a human tendency to fear. But it's what you fear, and what it causes you to do or not do, that makes all the difference. There is no life to regret if you choose the right thing every moment.

Thank you for this INCREDIBLE conversation! This was super inspiring and insightful. Here are some notes that I took while watching: - Check in with yourself often to make sure your decisions are really your own. - Differentiate the things you can't control from the things you can control. - Listen to your intuition. - Your strategy has to change over time. ("What got you here won't get you there.") - Don't be afraid of doing things that don't scale. Instead, recognize when it's time to change. - If things are not working out, try to get some distance. (Be aware of tunnel vision. Try to look at the bigger picture. Try something new.) - Moderation / "The Middle Way" - Processing and reflecting on experiences is important. - Spending quality time with people or menial things like doing the dishes can be productive as well. Make sure to not fall into the productivity trap! - People have no fucking idea what they are doing. No one has "figured it out", so don't feel bad about the fact that you haven't figured it out either. - Explore your boundaries. Expand your horizon by trying new things and experimenting. Retune your intuition. - Even if you figure out that your old way of doing things was actually right for you, it was still worth it because you were able to solidify that. - "My ass cheeks dude!" 🤣

I think the word detachment needs to be replaced
@banzy33 жыл бұрын
@@swolemaz_ Perhaps it could be better worded, but detachment doesn't mean being emotionally void or detached from reality/society/yourself, it's simply being accepting and present. If you emotionally invest yourself so deeply into your pursuits, and things don't go to plan, you will feel wretched. Or as another example, if you become so immersed in reading the news, you may perceive that to be reality, and every new story might bring with it anxiety and despair. Detachment, to me at least, is something more along the lines of stoicism.

8:20 Time of reflection vs Living in survival mode. This is something I’ve thought about a lot lately, have had multiple meaningful conversations about and have wanted to combine those thoughts into a video myself. Last 3 years my videography business has grown and I’ve been constantly overworking + trying to chase my personal dreams (travel vids, art, new brand) and trying to cope with a lot of changes etc, feeling highly stressed for months and constantly in the survival mode. To the point I burned out multiple times - first my health started to take a toll, physical pains, depression and overall it took me a lot of time to bounce back from intense projects. To the point i was doing and achieving more than ever, but unhappy and least confident I had ever felt. And the conclusion I’ve come to - the most important thing is to have time between experience. Have time to reflect. And not to stay in survival mode months and months at a time. Thank you for touching on this and helping me remind the importance of time for reflection.

LOVING this conversation... we all think going fast and living in our material external world is fulfilling, but as many ancient teachings have also pointed out, this is fleeting and temporary and at the end of it you will feel empty... you have X tasks to do, great you complete them and it allows you to buy Y material things or go on a trip or however you like to fill your life, but when that's all done what are you left with? That empty feeling of ok what's next to feel fulfilled again? Instead of living in a constant state of fulfillment because you foster it INTERNALLY versus externally and understand that the fast paced productive life is only a means to an end of having your comforts to a certain extent but not the END in itself. This has got my GEARS going

What got you here won't get you there: this is so true. I happen to be confused when old strategies don't work anymore, especially this one: I always used to deescelate situations because I just really liked harmony and I didn't want anyone to get hurt. So I preferred just to accept things and people and deal with it on my own by returning to myself and find peace within. I loved that. But as I grew older liking harmony turned out to really get me into weird situations over and over again. For example, I wasn't able to reject people who fell for me and I ended up having flings with them or even almost getting into a relationship I didn't even want. Or, speaking boundaries I always perceived as harsh, now I know it's desperately needed if you're an empath, otherwise you'll really loose yourself and suffer a lot. And yes, sometimes you need to set those boundaries really, really "harshly", because some people won't respect them if you do it the soft way.

This collab makes me so happy. You both are such ambitious people and I’m happy we get to learn from you through these mediums. Playing this on repeat for the next 8 hours 🙃

i relate to this creative process so much! it's a hard thing to figure out, how to not think about using every conversation or moment to see how i create out of it. i'm constantly thinking about my future and what i'm going to film next and it can be so hard to choose to unplug

Favourite video ever! It's also so exciting that you will record similar videos over, for instance a decade, and will be able to look back at your growth.

Thank you for sharing. I literally took notes during this video and wrote down some things that really resonated with me and were a comfort to know that 2 people that I look up to felt the same way. I am considering a big change right now to take a break from working FT to concentrate on improving my health and stress level, hopefully gain more energy, and to spend more quality time with my little one. Like you said when you’re worn down the answer is not buckling down and keep doing the same thing. ✌️☮️

I feel like you would really enjoy looking into MBTI. It’s about 16 personalities and how they view the world in completely different ways. The basics are: Introvert vs. Extrovert, iNtuition vs. Sensing, Feeling vs. Thinking and Judging vs. Perceiving. But if you’re actually going to do this then I suggest reading about the 8 cognitive functions and all of that. Also the 4 different sides of the mind and temperaments and interaction styles. It’s a lot but it’s worth it, you’ll grow so much as a person if you’ll know you’re MBTI, and don’t trust the test, do your own research, have a great journey. Btw, i think you’re an INFJ (Ni, Fe, Ti, Se), but correct me if I’m wrong.

This is the first video I have found of you..... wow! I’m speechless. This is so on time for me. I literally JUST uploaded a video yesterday that’s a life update and how I felt out of alignment with my life.

This video calmed me down. Especially the ending. I am 19 and i used yo feel like i had it (figered it out i guess) and since covid started when i was supposed to start my first year of college my "plan" ia becoming weaker and weaker ever since. Idk, but hearing Thomas saying that its ok to change and to not know, and algo you both having struggles too. It was helpful, so thank you. Saludos de Argentina
