My USA 2022 looks to be a Euro 4 engine in a Euro 5 bike…. I have had it now my 3rd day and my first bike as well. Love this thing it is so easy to ride and confidence inspiring.

Great video and commentary, as usual. Re: Your breakdown... My guess is that one of the connection plugs that you have to move out of the way to get to the battery, and which are under the right side panel, came adrift. We had the same problem after we did some maintenance or a mod. On ours, it was either never clicked together properly or we inadvertently dislodged it. I had a brief holy $#@! moment until we discovered the problem, but thankfully I wasn't stuck on the side of the road.

It’s blind both ways and a nightmare when in your situation. I miss North Devon... hope the bike is now up and running. Les (in Chester).

Great video Nath well done as ever. Worked in the bike trade many years and owned many Enfields 3 from new 4 second hand. owner experience from moto GB is imo dreadful they couldn't care less, bitterly disappointed with their attitude they treat the customer and dealers with utter contempt regarding warranty claim issues suffice to say if they burst into flames and I had a glass of water, I'd drink it.

Service intervals are 6000 for the Himalayan, its only the valves that need checked every 3000 that's what's on the logbook, its dealers that will be happy to fully service the bike every 3000 and not tell you it only requires valve checking.

I think this price is both an asset and a problem. Some people dismiss it because of the price, some people are drawn to it because of the price. I love my Himalayan because it is perfect for me. It was not about cost, my previous bike was a 2018 Africa Twin. It was a brilliant bike but it was too big and awkward for me off road. I feel confident that I can take my Himalayan anywhere. It is very confidence inspiring off road. Recently I was on a long dirt road trip to a ghost town. It poured for hours, the road turned into a slimy mess. I wouldn’t want to be on any other bike.

I'd LOL, but woke up this morning at the Overland Event to a flat battery on the CB. My own damn fault, as I'd left a couple gadgets charging on the 12v socket overnight. Shinola happens, hopefully your issue isn't going to be a big problem.

Moving the catalytic converter is just to get it to light off faster and thus go into closed loop operation faster during warmup.

Thanks the video. Some great tips for novices like me. My E5 just had its first service, all good so far I really like it. Hope you get to the bottom of the issue with your one. Looked like the fuel injection light was on so maybe a fuel issue? Go easy on RE regarding parts. The electronics industry is on its knees at the moment, some parts have a year lead time! Very frustrating though. I'd be interested in a late autumn bunkhouse run.

If you don’t keep the batteries fully charged on modern bikes they will let you down fast . The lights & the fuel pump & all kinds of electric parts are taking juice from the battery before the starter motor is even cranked .That wasn’t the case with old school carb fed bikes .that had lights you could switch off .& could be push started down the road .

Actually the Suzuki 250 V Strom has screw & nut type valve adjustment not shims .The valves can also be adjusted without removing the fuel tank by taking the side panels off & swinging the coolant bottle out the way .Suzuki 250 V stroms get used on all types of roads & non roads in Central & South America through flooded roads & rainy seasons even at high altitudes over the Andes & don’t miss a beat . They are better than they get credit for ,the U.K. biking press is fixated about horsepower & speed & elitist . I think the clue is in the title regards the Himalayan, RE decided to build an adventure bike more suited than the Bullet for touring rugged terrain like the Himalayan mountain range ,hence the Himalayan . Add one intrepid Dutch female adventurer riding a Himalayan thousands of miles over all terrain through several countries back to the Netherlands .Hey presto everyone is taking notice & you are riding one .👍

I would bet money on one of those 5 pin mini relays being the culprit. I had the same issue with my 2020 (US model) at about the 500 mile mark. I believe on the Euro 5 models that there are four of them housed together behind the battery box under the pillion. You just have to replace them with relays with same amps/voltage. After researching the issue I found it that was very common (especially on bikes produced 2020 and newer). My guess is that they changed manufacturers after an interruption in the existing supply during the pandemic. RE needs to get that sorted out right away. Quite a few people are getting stranded just riding home from the dealer.

@@daveinwla6360 believe one of them is the fuel pump/sidestand safeguard which causes this particular issue. In my bike there's only 2 relays, so I'm not sure on the bs5 what they're all related to.

Not sure if you will get the new KLR 650 in the UK to compare to the Himalayan but over here in Canada they are the same price at around $8000 Cdn (4567 GBP as we speak.) Yes the Himalayan is lower and easier to ride off road but the KLR has better power and better specs all round. Probably the Kawasaki is better built also. I do like the looks of the RE though as the KLR is darn ugly. All round cheap ADV to do everything Id go with the KLR for the money. Would like your thoughts. Not everyone can afford a GS so we have to compromise. Always like your reviews.

In the US, out the door price of Himalyan is around USD 5600, with freight and inspection charges. Sounds like it is 1000 bucks more in Canada. The dealers in Canada must be charging hell lot more or what? Is it higher freight charge in a smaller market with vast landmass? I think that Himalayan has a better mileage, its spares are cheaper, ergonomics is better, simpler and handles better and more forgiving on gravel etc. KLR has a more refined engine for better linear power delivery and runs faster on highways. But Himalayan can do 65 mph effortlessly at long stretches which is sufficient most of the time. Looks can be subjective but yea, the Himalayas looks way better in my eyes. Edit: From 4 series, Himalayan's build has pretty good for the money you pay. Build quality certainly is not a deal breaker.

The hazard lights came in useful there mine doesn't have those, 'leuheanrede' the great Indian Himalayan youtuber say's he wouldn't do an upgrade vid on fitting hazard lights as so many riders ride with them in India making them a Hazard ... The most obvious choice is for a 500cc single with balancer shaft, because it would suit both the Himalayan, the Meteor, and possible a resurgent Bullet.

Continental GT 535 launched 6-7 years back had a single cylinder engine. Don't know what they did to it RE could fit that engine with a big bore kit to make a ~700 cc engine and install on Himalayan for American motorways.

Same thing happened to me on a recent test ride. The bike just died. Then it restarted and died a couple of hundred yards up the road. I could restart it, but it would cut out as soon as I put it in first gear. Hasn’t put me off yet as it met all of my expectations! Let me know what the fault was.

If you watch the 'Wiltshire Man' KZbin channel his latest video titled 'Just A Country Ride' Lextek exhaust etc ( Sorry I don't know how to do the link) he reckons 55-60 mph is a comfortable cruising speed although the Bike will get up to 75-80mph. He gives his thoughts on the Bike at about the 16min mark if you're not interested in the rest of the vid.

I have to say this breakdown wouldn’t put me off the bike. I tend to find bikes either have the odd initial niggle or they’re rock solid. My brilliant TDM had an oil mist from an external oil feed which had a new seal a re-torqued at the first service. No drama and I’m sure it’ll be something equally minor on this. Ironic really as when the first came out I was the first to berate them because of all the initial horror stories of the Indian spec models. Turns out the basic design look rock solid.

No it definitely shouldn't. I was at pains to stress in the video that most likely it's my fault from buggering up the abs sensor. This breakdown isn't a reflection of the bike, at least that's my assumption until I have a look what's up with it.

Unfortunate breakdown! That's one of the worrisome parts for me; a lot of the riding out in this area (southwest USA) is... very remote - the sort of places where breakdown could result in a very bad situation. Probably just a kink that needs worked out!
