Great little ride out on RE's cleverest creation, brilliantly filling a niche everyone else had ignored. It's really refreshing to listen to someone who doesn't take themselves too seriously , a trap so many motorcycle channels fall into. Your video's are almost completely devoid of ego which is actually a very difficult thing to pull off. It makes for a very relaxing 20min escape for the viewer.... keep muttering on!

Hi there, just wanted to say - as a Himi owner - that I very much enjoyed your review of this bike. Your description of the Himi being 'your best mate' is totally perfect. One thing you might like to know is that once she has a few mls on the clock she opens up and becomes a significantly more powerful FEELING bike. Mine has nearly 7000 kms on the clock and she goes like a good'un. Also I've taken to riding her with the std. end can no longer installed and she sounds soooooo sweet, and a bit quicker to rev up. 1 bolt to undo and another bolt just slackened and off comes the end can and on comes the broad grin. Love this bike ...

Wonderful. Great review. With the dreadful wet weather down in Cornwall, I haven't put the miles on the Eggy the Scram that I hoped. Somewhere around 1200-1300 at today, but I have used it on some bad days for work. Fitted cheap (£12) Chinese heated grips to Eggy and they work a treat. I continue to be amazed at the 411. The engine is getting smoother as the miles mount and it's gorgeous. The Gearbox is excellent. Road holding excellent in wet or dry (something often not the case with oem tyres!). He is now happily bowling along at 55-60 anytime. The short stretch of dual carriageway I cover and up to indicated 70 without any complaint for a short burst if required. I've not cleaned it as much as I should but the finish is really great and holding up well. Having ridden the Himalayan as well - said before, bigger front wheel makes a subtle difference, screen maybe is an advantage, seat is slightly less comfortable than the Scram over distance. Otherwise I think the Himalayan or Scram differ and are a flip of a coin to suit preference in style. It's everything you've said. Bloody marvellous bikes.

G’day from OZ, Mr. Taym. Like your style and have been a subscriber for a while now. I bought a 2016 Himalayan, carbie model. Was a revelation at the time, as it felt and handled like a 250cc. The 2016 was the first version. 2017 they introduced the fuel injection model. Have never ridden one! Used my Himalayan on many dirt/mud runs and was pleasantly surprised. Kept up with Honda Africa Twins , many others, including CCM . Unfortunately I was hit, from behind, by a Can Am Spider and he was doing 80km/hour. I was lucky to survive and had many broken bones, ribs, knee and ankle. (He never said sorry to me!) Took 5 guys to get me from underneath it! Have 5 bikes, at present , 2017 Triumph 900 Street Scrambler, 2011 Honda VFR800X , 1975 Yamaha XS650 customised like a Triumph TR6C and 2 x FZ50 Suzuki mopeds. But will sell them all to have a Himalayan again! Send me the link with Mrs. Taym’s thoughts.

Nice review Mr TAYM. I had a used 2018 model which i bought in 2019, great little bike as long as you accept it's limitations on the open road. You're spot on with the servicing, people go on about the short intervals but most people don't do the miles these days; if you do the miles service it yourself, it's an easy bike to work on and that includes the tappets.

I agree 100% about servicing. In my area shop schedules are weeks (often months) out. Since motorcycles are my primary year round transportation I can't wait on them to squeeze me in, let alone the time away from work and other complications. I would rather have a bike that has shorter service intervals and is easier to work on then the latest and greatest bike that takes special equipment and knowledge to service and repair. It was a huge factor in my last bike purchase and one of the reasons I got a DR650. RE dealers where sparse and had limited selection in my area at the time.

I’ll give you a real review from someone who’s had a brand new one since September, and I’ve put over 3k miles on it so far. It’s okay. The cylinder head (at least on mine) sounds reeeeeeally terrible when it warms up, or if it’s already warm outside (anything over 50° F). And it likes to jump out of gear, but rarely enough that I don’t care. With a 16t sprocket it runs on the highway okay. 70mph at 5k rpm or so. Overall: I give it a 7/10. Great gas mileage, nice and quiet (minus my cylinder head that gets deafening within a minute), and easy to ride. It’s more at home between 10-45mph. If I lived somewhere that only had back roads and max speeds of 35mph, it would be so much better. It CAN take a passenger, but not recommended. Recommend a few things right off the bat: Crash bars, fork extensions, and crank up the rear shock one notch.

Fine video. I think the Himi and the Scram are more than enough for the average rider. A bargain too. RE puts out wonderful motorcycles. But alas, too tall for me. The curses of a 28" inseam. 😂. That road is horrible. That would be like a dirt road around here. When I first came here I thought to myself the roads here are like pool tables. Being from New England it was a pleasure to ride around not worrying about potholes and the other hazards of what harsh winters do to the roads. Have a great weekend 😁

Another wonderful review. My plan concerning the short service intervals is to let the dealer do the 3k and 6k services, and if there's no problems with the bike, then I'll just service it myself after that. If there is likely to be any work needing carried out under warranty I'm sure it'll appear before then. I haven't rode a Himalayan yet, but I did enjoy the scram when I rode that.

@The All Year Motorcyclist the himi is very good value especially when you consider the cost of fitting rear racks etc to the scram. I do like the uncluttered cluster on the scram but I think some of the additional info the himi provides would be an added benefit. I think Northants council is try to compete with yours to see how big the craters can get in the roads before they have to throw some gravel in them 🤔

Great review TAYM. I like the change in your taste description 😋. Regarding servicing, as someone that relies on my bike for transportation I'll take a bike that has shorter and simple service intervals over longer but more complex ones. It's not as much about shop cost as my time taking off work to take it there and wait on them to get it done. I prefer being able to do it myself and around my schedule. Good thing about riding is you can squeeze into more places when people drive like idiots 😆.

Yea but the thing is with the 2024 year model Himalayan with an expected 450cc and 40hp just about to be brought on to the market. Some folks are HOLDING off buying the current version. THIS is what intended buyers have to address. Yes the dealers want a steady stream of sales, we understand that, bringing out KZbin videos to promote the current version, this is £££ understandable. But anyone that is into motorbikes knows that the new version of the Royal Enfield Himalayan is on the way and holding on just that bit longer may well come up trumps for anyone who wants such a machine. What RE want to do btw is bring out a slightly sleeved down 398cc version of the 450 engine and bang that in the HUNTER. Bringing that out as a 400. It won't hurt having a more modern looking engine in the Hunter rather than what the RE classic 350 would. Though the Hunter with then around maybe 35hp, a good 15hp more than the current 350. I'd sooner have a 35hp 398cc Hunter still in the £47 but not in the £73 UK yearly vehicle tax bracket as would a 450cc sadly be, than a weedy 350cc 20hp version. Keeping the SAME styling, that looks FAB, especially the blue version, though with a 50cc increase in capacity and likely a more modern looking & performance driven engine, that similar to BSA can still be made to look retro-ish as their 650 Gold Star mainly does. YES I am sure the 411 RE Himalayan in a real nice old bike to ride around on, I'd have fun on it as I would with most of the RE range, especially the 650 Interceptor. Great bike. Just that when RE finally release the 450 version, (IF indeed it is, we MIGHT even get a mind blowing 500cc version!!!!!). Even if MCN and others say its a 450. Back full circle to the old XT Yam 500 trail days then!). This latest 411cc Himalayan version will soon devalue overnight. Be REALISTIC folks. Yes the 450 Himalayan will cost more. Or if RE are so bold a 500 Himalayan will cost more. But these newer bikes will be in demand, both brand new and second hand. Yes I have a feeling it could be a 500 Himalayan, the 450 spiel put out there as misdirection so that when it is finally revealed to be a 500, under 47hp so a A2 bike, though with a nice spread of torque. Enthusiasts will go mad for it, beating off even some BSA 650 scrambler sales in to the bargain. Beating also their 'expectations' of it, cc wise anyway. Yes the current Himalayan version would be fun to own and ride about on, just that a newer version is within a year or so about to come to market, so we hear. It could even be later on this year that it comes out. It's all down to the actual BUYER to decide. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DEALERS just can't have it both ways though, they'll likely flip their lid promoting the newer version when it comes out, promoting the virtues of it far & wide. Then when it comes to giving money on a 411cc Himalayan offered up in part exchange, out will come the sob sob story of "not so much in demand" to get a lower price from the motorcyclist. This is what will happen. You SEE!!!. They may say they won't to the high hills, but they will. So best to weigh it all up, if you can put up with the swanky modern looking looks of the newer plastic looking Himalayan version that to me is NOT as good as the current slightly brutish/raw looking version, then best to hang about for the new one. If not consider the current 411cc one and as likely as not, feel as though you are missing out on the extra performance when the latest one does come out. Though surely RE is more about >>looks
@TAYM
@TAYM Жыл бұрын
Very comprehensive 😊 but all manufacturers do the same every year, some producing competitors of there own models. We could all just wait for the next and then the next. I guess with RE if you do pull the trigger and but the current model, you will lose less than most other brands 😊 thank you for your comment, very much appreciated 😊

Hmm, there will always be a newer version of everything. And, lets see it as it is its not always better to have the latest greatest. So why not enjoy the "original" Himi now, but wait forever for a chance that maybe never comes true? I have got five bikes, love all of them, but my Himi will stay the longest if I would ever be forced to sell all bikes but one. And, thats a very easy decision made by the heart, not the head.

The Himalayan is splendid but a comparison with the Himarlyan would have been useful. Potholes round here don't even flinch when I ride over 'em. I did like your take on the two mudguards though. What it would taste like if it was edible is worth pursuing with other bikes. Derek's Interceptor tasted like dog poo 🐶. You are dead right about the service intervals. I really like that transverse vee twin that is just different to anything else I just wish I fitted it better.

The rozzers had been warned, that some loon would be riding past on a chunky monkey 🙊 😂. You wouldn’t be too scared of dropping the Himi on a trail, whereas with the others, you would be counting up the cost of repairs. 😮.

I like the Himalayan but I did find it uncomfortable. Sat on one with touring seat and it was OK. Luckily I have no room so that stops me getting one. Although at the mo I like the dax! Or buy a classic off my mate..

" I feel like John Pawson " , 😂 There's no better accolade . REs sell because they are reasonably priced and that's a good thing because it means more people can afford to ride motorcycles , have fun and have enough money left over to eat Yorkie bars . If the Himalayan were a dog breed , what would it be ? PS . Yorkies are worried !
