I thought about getting into riding a motorcycle as someone who currently drives a car but it doesn't make any financial sense as a secondary leisure device. I would be happy with a 125cc but having to do the C.B.T every two years is quite frankly a con and unnecessary. Then you have the costs of M.O.T, Road Tax and Insurance. The insurance costs more than the car. When you just want to ride it a couple of months a year it makes no sense to me. Maybe someone can explain how to make the financial side of it work but I'm not seeing it.

Is it a bad to just go in at 24 to get my A, as I want to get the license after uni

Not stupid as long as you don’t buy a bike well out of ability to ride. For example, don’t buy a 350kg Harley if you are unstable when riding or an R1 if you’re new to riding.

This exactly! Just choose a lower powered bike as your first. Jack makes a great point here!

This is exactly what I've done. Learnt on a SV650, and have just bought a SV650. Be sensible and you'll be fine. Maybe wouldn't suggest a 1000cc straight out the gate, but get a feel for it on your lessons.
