I am incredibly jealous! This has been my lifelong dream; I learned this song from a Californian near-eastern music aficionado named Mimi Spencer. I'd have paid money to be here with Abeer Nehme and the NAO. I hope you tell your grandkids about this. This is my "comfort KZbin video" before I go to bed - thank you for your hard work there! I hope one day to be able to be part of such a masterpiece, alhamdulillah!

Amigo ... what kind of history do you read ... ? You must be distracted a bit by passion .... you as arabs ... invaded the Mediterranean countries in 6th century and that's where you found the roman- hellenic-byzantine culture .. ...you copied and flourished the music that's been sung in the Byzantine empire ... the true cradle of civilization... from law to medicine and beyond.,there's a Byzantine stamp on each of them.... starting from the terms used ... and finishing with the beaurocratical functionality systems copy pasted from Constantiople . don't blow your bottom bro ., as you might implode!!! .

A medieval era song which hits all the mark : a processional, idling and slow march, which feels fatefully drawn towards a torturing sort of passion. One can picture the procession of a choir, perhaps in between are some dancers as well in the court, there is something holy and human altogether happening. The song is an innocent lament about how the walking gait and bend of a woman captured the poet's heart. Despite our backwards perspective on the Dark Ages, or those Medieval Ages, or even the notion of Islamic rule as fearsome during those times, one must think relatively and understand that these were people just like us, regardless of time or faith. They felt sorrow, temptation, passionate attraction, and led lives with similar experiences to us, the human condition. What makes this piece of Medieval Islamic art so transcending is for me, the slow, torturous and lamenting quality of love, between the holy and the simply human.
