I have to wonder where the writers came up with that. (Most of the things they included had a semblence of real life). But it was great acting, great writing, and great directlng which made such a great show.

Roger Rees was one of the best parts of WW. He could chew scenery like no one else. From his first intro to the “Brendan McGann may not come to the White House” and the later speech at the bar with Toby. Amazing actor. RIP

I love the scene where the President asks John and Leo their opinion on the ABM tech the US is working on. You get to see a moment of real recognition by John of Leo and his experiences. No jokes or cracks at his expense. Real respect while still in disagreement. I loved moments like this in the show.

I have always thought Sir John wound Leo up precisely because he respected him. Those he didn't respect he simply ignored.

I still maintain that Roger Rees would have been a phenomenal Doctor on Doctor Who, based just on this performance alone.

The late, great Roger Rees (who was actually Welsh!) creating an unforgettable character.

Hence the comment by Leo "I don't even think the accent is real" It's a nod to the fact that a Welshman has pulled off a perfect posh British accent. 4:45 is the best monologue delivered from any actor on this series. With a close second being Brendan Mcgann. The man was a goddamn powerhouse. RIP Lord John.

Always grates me with the prefix ‘Madam’. It’s simply ‘Prime Minister’. With the King and the Queen you begin with ‘Your Majesty’, and subsequently ‘Sir and mam’. I’m pretty certain a President would know this. Now for my positives. I loved all of Lord John in the show, and Roger Rees was equally superb in ‘Cheers’. The running gag with ‘Gerald’, and “We’ve met on several occasions” always makes me chuckle.

There are only a few episodes I disliked but those with John Marbury were none of them. He dives so deep into history going back centuries in recounting current advice. (They left out the scene where he mildly scolds Leo for calling him ignorant.) Like all great shows it had it ups and downs, but John was always an up.

Bartlet talked about America fighting off the British right before Marbury's first appearance. Also Leo is 100% the butler lmao.

The funniest thing about the West Wing is the characters always referring to things by their technical designations "anab3 missiles" "aces1125 ejector seat". It feels like an unrealistic verbal tic.

It's from a B plotline that's a little difficult to sum up concisely, but I'll give it a shot: one of the White House assistants finds herself kept out of the First Lady's birthday party at the last minute when it turns out that her birthplace along the US side of the border is now suddenly on the Canadian side. While waiting for this to be resolved, Donna ends up being included in a group of women hanging out with the First Lady as she works through a deeply disappointing event, and after Donna shocks herself by accidentally speaking a hard truth to the First Lady a little bluntly, the First Lady expresses her appreciation by getting the band to play "O Canada" in her honor. 😁

Tony Blair was the English PM during the time when WW was set. Why did Jed address the PM as "Madam PM?" Thatcher went out in 1990... (episode with Marbury, when a civilian plane was shot down by Iran).

I would get along with Lord John just fine. He's eccentric, but he's earned it. If I were Leo I would give him that respect. Id be like "Lord John, good to see you. I have a bottle of gin in my office, can I offer you a glass?". Lol 😂 Seriously, it's a TV series, but I love the guy.

Quick question for the editors. Why is this video in reverse? Put the clips in order properly. And it would have been far more attention grabbing.

I wonder how much of Marbury’s role was scripted v Rees coming up with it. For example, giving Leo his coat to hold while saying “Thank God you sent for me”.
