Further interest rate increases will see thousands more poeple homeless ...this is our biggest social issue and government can stop the RGA, this must be talked about.

Has anyone modelled the effect of phasing out the CGT discount over 10 years? I understand the need for immediate action on housing, I'm a renter who would love rents to stop going up and house prices to come down, but wouldn't it be more politically viable to phase out/down the CGT discount (including in Super)? I.e. reduce the discount from 50% to 45% on 1 July 2024, then to 40% on 1 July 2025, etc until it gets to 15% (the current discount rate in Super) at which point it stops and the rate in Super continues dropping by 5% until there is no discount. That way, you minimise the risk of an overall housing crash as Australia has so much money tied up in housing, while also steadily discouraging investors from getting into the housing market which decreases demand. In addition, restrict negative gearing to brand new builds, and treat negatively geared existing properties like capital losses for tax purposes, where they're quarantined to offset future income from the same type of source.

Will our treasurer use his powers to stop more RBA interest rate increases, millions are drowning in massive bank profits.

Dutton's nuclear power nonsense is just a distraction.

We are not going to get to net zero without nuclear power. Storage (battery and pumped hydro) is just too expensive, way more expensive than nuclear.

@@jinnantonix4570 you may be right, small nuclear could have a place once we actually have a good working design. Net zero is just a political dream, mankind will never get there.

@jinnantonix4570 small nuclear reactors have place if we can actually get them of the ground. But net zero is a dream that will never be realised.

@@jamesliddle8326 Terrapower SMR in the US is showing promise. Alternatively we could be using a small conventional reactor design, the Libs a re looking at the GE Hitachi BWRX-300. I agree that actually reaching net zero is an unattainable dream, but we won't even get close without nuclear.

yes it is just a distraction, a ploy to keep kicking the can down the road. The exact tactic they used to fuck the NBN. Tasmania is powered by mostly hydro and is supplemented by gas. We can do the same in the rest of Australia with Solar and Wind. I am not anti-nuclear, I think its a waste of time and money to invest in nuclear fission when we don't need it and we would be better off waiting for fusion.

As a firearms owner, the only thing additional registers would do is put more red tape in front of law abiding citizens. In addition, any Government agency that thinks they can police the Internet is inherently authoritative. The content I have seen is in my opinion, not even extreme compared to what we have seen our ADF do in foreign countries. Careful, your bias is showing.
