Used to train with these guys when I was Army Recon(Scouts) in the Illinois National Guard. Had a lot guys in my platoon who were Vietnam veterans and Rangers both tabed and scrolled , so they set up training missions with the SF guard unit which was located about four miles from our armory. Those were high speed times.

Yes you can but highly recommend you finish your Guard Committment first they hate guys who come, get qualified and cut sling load. I knew a guy( a pretty famous guy in the community) who was at 19th Group and was ready to go to SFAS and could not get them to send him. He went to my Battallion at 20th Group and got qualified then immediately left and went back to 19th. Yeh he got qualified but that I'm sure engendered alot of trust issues and put a ? on him at both units. Thats just going from one Guard unit to another jumping to the active side is far more common and they will give you a mountain of shit if you dont at least fulfill your commitment.

People do not realize that the Reserve/National Guard also have full time positions and also so very true is that dependent on MOS and rank, they will spend time beyond the weekend or two week drill. I’m retired Army but I had a break in full time service and spent a year in the reserves. I gained an entire whole new level of respect of knowledge of what it takes to be a “weekend” warrior. @joshualittle877
@joshualittle877 4 жыл бұрын
@@rickscully9533 Im about as reliable source as your going to find. I spent 15 years in the Army including 4 in the National Guard. The Army National Guard is one of two Reserve components of the United States Army. National Guard Soldiers attend Regular Army Schools as well as Some that are National Guard Schools. National Guard Schools are all to the exact same standard as the Regular Army except that they may be divided into sections. For example there is a Army Sniper School at Ft Benning and a National Guard Sniper School at Camp Robinson Arkansas. The Guard school is exactly the same except its got two halves you would take separately. This is done to help those Guard soldiers who want to go not have to take as much time off their civilian job. That is less of an issue these days because many of those who attend it like National Guard Special Forces Soldiers do allot more active duty time than traditional reservists, I know I was in the 20th Special Forces Group. Incidentally 19th and 20th Special Forces are the single largest component of USSOCOM and USASOC and 1st Special Forces Command 19th Group has 5 Battalions. Yes the Guard is a Reserve Component it also is managed by the States Governor when not activated but it is very much a component of the US Army. When I deployed to Afghanistan in 2002 I was with 3rd Group and 7th Group as part of CJSOTF. Our commanding General(a NG General) was the top Ranking Special Operations Officer in country for almost 2 years at the very beginning of ther war. Im aware bthere are those on the active side that dont even know this as I encountered a few when I went back on active duty but they had it explained to them by the CSM who also came over from the Guard. In the past like prior to the 1980s they were treated less so but they always were part of the Army. They are all combat units for the most part and were created as an expeditionary combat force. Incidentally they have several units now that are the direct reserve components of Active Units. 20th Special Forces is operates primarily in SOUTHCOM but its seperate from 7th Group. The 143rd Parachute Infantry Regiment on the other hand a direct reserve component of the 173rd Airborne Brigade. I served in the 173rd on Active Duty and the 143rd in the Guard. So perhaps you need to check your info.

@@joshualittle877 First off happy Veterans Day! I too spent most of my adult life in the Army. To be specific, 23 years of it, in one branch or another. I started off in 11B then switched to 11H. Then went to 31B for several years, then went to 12W/12P/12H. Then switched to 38B Civil Affairs. Where I ended my career. I understand the RA and NG and AR schools. However, they are totally different. The NG and AR schools are much different and very abbreviated than the RA. Now things might be different in the SOCOM world. However, in the traditional branches things are the same. I did active duty Battle Staff. It is totally different then AR/NG. I understand that people combine NG/AR together. However, they are two way different entities. One is controlled by the governor. Only when the President calls them up are they activated. The NG are on title 32 when drilling. The AR are not. The AR are on title 10 orders, because they are a true reserve to the active duty. It is much more difficult for a NG soldier to transfer to RA than a AR. The AR are a support element to the RA where the NG has there own command element that has total control such as the 34th infantry division, who can become the GCC. So, I get your point that you combine the two. However, they serve to distinctly different roles. Take care! Be safe!
