Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has come under fire for making unrealistic promises about the NHI while on the campaign trail. In a trending video, Lesufi is heard promising ANC voters they will be able to walk into any private health facility after the 29th of May. I don't understand the necessity for the NHI. Wasn't the public hospital system, the primary and tertiary, and the day-care hospitals specifically for this purpose ? Could the unemployed, semi-employed and the fully employed, young and old not get free and subsidised assistance at any public hospital ? What has now changed, apart from a very broken public health care system, broken completely by the ANC ? Or, is this just another mechanism, an excuse for Jo Public to pay additional taxes to be looted by the politicians ?

You can walk onto any state hospital after a referral from a clinic and get free treatment. The problem is you will have to wait possibly for many days and may or may not see a doctor. A specialist is another issue. Over a year to 18 months for a hip replacement!!!!

Imagine if he could do arithmetic . 1. How many patients seek care on a daily basis. 2. How many Doctors and medical personal are available to attend to them 3 How many clinics and hospitals are functional and equipped to attend to these patients . Perhaps with assistance the light may come on, that they first have to build and repair the infrastructure which they broke and neglected , then they have to attract and employ competent medical staff , and only THEN can they open the doors for business . The quickest way to fail is to " over promise and under deliver " which seems to be their only skill .
