Fun Fact: Mae Questel, who played Aunt Bethany was also known for providing the voices for the animated characters Betty Boop (from 1931) and Olive Oyl (from 1933). Mae went on to reprise her role as Betty Boop one last time in 1988s Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Her final film appearance was National Lampoons Christmas Vacation……& what away to go out!!! Also, Clark’s boss is played by Bill Murray’s brother; Brian Doyle Murray…..who also appears in the excellent Wayne’s World, as Noah Vanderhoff.

It looks like you weren't aware there's actually a whole series of Vacation movies, which isn't quite as surprising as some other movie watching gaps have been since only two of them (the original and this) are any good. Luckily, they're also all designed to pretty much stand on their own, and can even drive you nuts if you try to fit them all into a single continuity since Russ and Audrey change not only actors but personalities every single time. About the only thing you're missing by watching only this one is that Eddie's appearance wouldn't be quite so completely out of nowhere, since you'd know him from the first film.

Now that you've seen this film, please watch the first two. A deleted scene showed them first go to the tree lot with the sign, where all the trees looked like crap--or at least didn't satisfy Clark--and then go into the woods, where, naturally, he had no axe since they weren't planning on chopping down a tree in the first place. Sometimes a deleted scene shouldn't be.
