Someone put in an FOI request and received the response that the National Trust DO allow drones. It's mentioned in a very recent DJE Media video. They're basically lying to you, so it's worth looking that up so you can wave it under their noses when they tell you otherwise.

@@Anonymousaudits I remember when the NT attempted to force the public to take down any images taken on NT property . i have worked in conjunction with the NT so was privy to the lies they feed to the public . the blanket ban is solely due to greed, creating a monopoly via the gift shops.

They are not lying to you, its people not understanding where you can fly from. If you are on NT land then you cannot take off or land from it, its their right to enforce that and you can legally be told to leave (there may also be bye laws in place to back this up), you can fly from public land outside of the NT property but you will be subject to any laws where your flying may endanger people or property or failing to carry out a sufficient risk assessment before and whilst flying. Even if there are no flight restrictions in place, it may not be suitable to fly a drone due to other hazards (red kites have been known to attack drones, as do other birds of prey), this could injure the bird and that would be the fault of the drone operator as they have not carried out a proper risk assessment. If you've watched PJ's NT video, this shows you how NOT to fly a drone, parked up obstructing the access road, flying off the road (both illegal btw as taking off from there breaks ANO241 and causes an obstruction of a highway), and PJ being an ex driving instructor should know better. All this sort of behaviour does is force more restrictions on drone operators from the CAA rather than carrying out the correct assessments before flying.

@tonyb1223 not sure what all that was about. I fly legal and no risk assessment needed. Although I do a dynamic one on the day for my own records. I can't recall anyone flying from a road or putting anything or one in danger..??

@@Anonymousaudits You have to do a risk assessment, this then turns into a dynamic risk assessment whilst you are flying, but it means you should have a risk assessment before flying, written diwn usually as not having one can drop you in it if you get stopped by the police (for example dangerous flying), so that covers you. And the comment about the flying was in regards to a PJ audits video where he took off and landed ON a highway, not your video 🙂

As long as you take off / land from public land & you maintain VLOS 100% legal. Drone flyers are so common now guidance for staff needs to be updated as it would avoid issues or disagreements.

It's perfectly legal do your flight as long as your not in a restricted zone and line of sight not above 400ft.. a small sub 250g drone I doubt it'll be even noticeable...
