Interesting why only India has these problems with the MiG-21s. Is it a cultural issue? This is the most built, most widely used jet fighter in History and only India made it a coffin. The aircraft, as all deltas, demands an skilled pilot. Is it true that India is using the in the normal pilot formation curriculum as the advanced, final trainer for cadets? I read that in a Western publication; but I cannot believe it. The operational conditions in the Soviet Union, Africa, Vietnam, China,Caribbean, etc. were harsher than in India; but people there loved and love it. Germany experienced a worse situation with the F-104 and called it the "Widow Maker", but they were analytical and did not blame the aircraft, but the pilots and their commanders. The aircraft survived in Italy till recently and did not create widows. I have been familiar with this aircraft for over 50 years and it has proven itself as rugged and dependable as the Kalashnikov. Spartan but easy to keep and reliable. Are the bad aircraft Soviet made or Indian built? Maybe there are quality control issues behind the problems? Not for nothing over 20 nations are still flying 21s. And the 21 is still the second most numerous fighter in use, after the F-16; a fighter that was inspired by the 21 after Vietnam. In a nation famous for meditation, a bit of soul-searching may bring positive solutions! Only don't allow politics into any cockpit!!

You make an interesting point. I don't have enough information to answer it. I can only make somewhat logical deductions. It seems the MiG-21 issue has two sides: one technical and one political. The technical side is addressed in my initial post; especially in the not-answered question of the IAF using the 21 as a final training school chair for cadets or green pilots. If that's true, then the answer is clear. Even more if it happens that the air force is sending inexperienced pilots to the 21 and experienced ones to the Mirage and Jaguar. If one realizes that India does not have many (any?) Soviet built 21s, since the Soviets stopped its production around 32 years ago, and that your 21s are Bisons (an improved 21), license manufactured in India, the Maintenance, Repair, and spare parts issues logically can be and should be, in the hands of India and Israel. The political side is more delicate and can involve "love" for the West and "hate" for Russia, coming from some vested interests. But that's for you to analyze. Still, the main question remains open: Why is only India experiencing this situation with the MiG-21?
