Paul is back to run through the basic principles of setting up the lorry loader, unfolding and carrying out a couple of test lifts. With a few handy tips and tricks along the way! www.nationaldrivingcentre.co....
In this video Paul will give you a taster of ALLMI Lorry loader training. Also known as HIAB training. The principles are largely the same but ALLMI is the gold standard when it comes to Lorry loader training! He covers how to unfold the crane, tests lifts, all whilst using the swivel hook attachment. The video is also relevant for Brick grab & Clamshell training if you were to complete the training to get a grab lorry job or work for a builders merchants doing multi drop!

Thank you so much. Rain would be fine you we just need to re calculate your weight (bags of sand or blocks). Snow would be most challenging as you can not make a good assessment of the ground condition. Wind speed is a big factor and most Lifting plans are set to 20MPH. Hope this helps 👍👍👍

Within learning and getting a HIAB license (already have my class 2 and CPC) will there be a theory exam? Or is it just a practical? I can’t find practise questions anywhere on the internet. Thanks
@NationalDrivingCentre
@NationalDrivingCentre 7 ай бұрын
Yes, there will be some written exams, multiple-choice and open questions about 40 multiple-choice and about six open questions with just a little bit of writing. This is not a spelling test with a good instructor and Examiner as long as I understand what answer you are getting across you'll be fine. If you're any doubt, ask your instructor.. If you download the ALLMI app, it's completely free under the section for tools. There will be a Q&A task. This will give you a rough idea of what some of the questions will be. Hope this helps, and thank you so much for your question. Kind Regards Paul 👍👍

It's not a Hiab licence it's a lorry loader licence if it was a Hiab licence the only 1 you would be able to use is a Hiab not a Palfinger, not an Atlas Terex, not a HMF, not a Fassi etc Hiab is a make like a Hoover is to a vacuum you cannot Hoover with a Dyson, an Electrolux or o Vax. Hiab is the manufacturer

I wouldn't give up just yet a skilked grab driver on for the right company can get himself around £200+ a day working on the utilities & being on the utilities there is less chance of being vosa'd due to less motorway usage if they're what you're bothered about the majority of companies have British & domestic tacho log books not using your tacho card so there is less infringements to get done for

Hi thank you for this video The company I have just started with I’ve said I only need a couple of days in-house training to use the grab lorry is this correct
@NationalDrivingCentre
@NationalDrivingCentre Жыл бұрын
Although this can comply with "health and safety at work act 1974 section 2 for supervision and training" it will not be a recognise governing body and therefore the standard of training may not be up-to-date. I would strongly advise getting Training done with the governing body. So you know the training is up-to-date and it's carried out up to today's standards.

@NationalDrivingCentre

Yes, exactly the same thing. There is no such thing as a Hiab license, Hiab is just a manufacturer of a loader with regards to grab lorries it's just which attachment you're gonna go for. With us you can do Hook, Brick Grab or Clamshell (Grab) all with remote control. I hope this helps if you've got any questions please give us a call. 👍👍👍

There are about 40 multiple choice, questions, and about eight open questions. The open questions will require a little bit of writing. For example, one of the questions is what ground conditions would we not want to see before we get our legs out? Sand, grass, slope, excavations, water drainage are just a few of the answers we could give. By the end of day one, we normally do a pop quiz to find out how much you've learnt and 99% of the time it's very good 👍

At 19:23 in my honest opinion you should have retracted the boom and at a height above workers movements because as you were indicating that you were putting the accessories away, you, the crane operator or the slinger could be in harms way when taking the accessories away from the load on the ground, like slings. So, good practice dictates to move the obstacle (crane boom) prior stowing away any accessories. I fully get that this was an oversimplified version of crane operations but still a fault in safety. The final thing I would say is that the end of the strap was unsecured. A load could move whilst in motion, this could cause the end bit of the strap to get loose and dangle into the tyres. For this reason, the end strap should be folded away and have nothing to do with the securing of the load. It is an old bad habit to just push the end strap between the ratchet and the body of the lorry.
@NationalDrivingCentre
@NationalDrivingCentre 3 жыл бұрын
Some good points 🧐 and I can understand what you're saying but nearly always when straps and chains have been left behind by a lone worker it's nearly always because one or two steps have been missed in this case with no slinger signaller and loan working its best best practice to carry out the checks and inspections to the straps and chains or accessories and then put them away, then there's no chance of them being left behind of course if slinger/ signaller have been involved in this video, this would be different. If the load is moving whilst in motion, the fault is not with the end of the strap but with the securing of the load. Thank you for the comments some interesting things to think about.

@@NationalDrivingCentre Sure, I am 90% of the time working alone. I have all I need to do my lifts with or without lift plans. What I do as independantly of my training is after the load is on the ground and unhooked is to always raise the boom slightly above their heads as to have enough clearence to avoid any posibility of striking the boom when moving around the load. Anyway, it was a good intro to lifting operations.

How much work do you actually do you wouldn't last 5 minutes at most companies I accept your trying to emphasise the safety but in real life you will never get the time to do this
@NationalDrivingCentre
@NationalDrivingCentre Жыл бұрын
Far from it, Andrew, I get quite a lot of work (and I carry out some very specialised lifts) and the main thing is I don't think get things wrong. KZbin is full of videos where people fail to follow the rules and end up getting things very wrong. If you've ever had the chance to speak to someone who has made these very large mistakes they will tell you "I wish I had just taken the time to get it right". Whether it's a road traffic act or dropping a load or rolling over a loader, taking the time to get it right is critical. Years ago, These courses use to be a mornings course where people would lift up pots of paint and move them around, because those people went out and hurt people and drop loads. This course is now two day course with written and practical exams. So, taking the time to get it right, is imperative. Thank you so much for your comment and your input and I hope you understand why we do this. 👍
