Good video. A few words on straps and bars in box vans. The side wall of a box that might be 8 to 12m long needs to constrained by sets of spring bars and ratchet straps at intervals along its length, otherwise that sidewall is too flexible and the load is poorly restrained. So every two or three rows a strap and a bar. Still too many people thinking that if they stack em up and can get the doors shut it's OK! 🤔

Question, can I apply one end of the chain ratchet to the chain and the other end directly to the lashing point?
@NationalDrivingCentre8 ай бұрын
In a way, yes because you have a shortening link within the chain, it would be challenging and the chain would be a little bit too long. The hooks themselves are more designed to carry out a choke hold around a component. Consult your company is safe systems of work with regards to securing there are loads. 👍👍👍

Yes, Obviously if you was securing a vehicle then you would need to use change on the shackle pins in a criss-cross formation at the front and rear of the vehicle. And then using the ratchet to close attention as shown. 👍👍
@LookOutForNumberOne Жыл бұрын
Precisely, that is what he did wrong. He is showing an unrealistic securing of a load. You would hardly ever loop a chain and secure it from the bottom, that is just nuts!!! Hence, for me, that is a FAIL.

how do you secure sheets on tipper trucks? do you use ratchet straps too or ropes?
@NationalDrivingCentre Жыл бұрын
So sorry when you say sheets, what do you mean? This would most likely be ratchet strap as part of all companies safe systems of work there should be no rope used anymore because no six monthly checks are carried out (due to a lack of identification number), we don't know the age of the rope or what condition it's potentially in. 👍 therefore, rope is not a safe, securing method.

Hi I find your videos very helpful, I'm doind my cpc module 4 in couple of weeks, at the moment we don't need to know the dolly knot?.. Can we just choose de straps instead?
@NationalDrivingCentre3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your comments and questions. The reason we don't need to know Dolly knot anymore is companies are not allowed to use rope to secure a load, the reason being is the rope is not load tested, it has not been inspected and has no date of birth. For this reason a ratchet strap or chains it's going to be the best method to secure a load. 👍👍

What is that cage in the video meant to be? That confuses me the most because there could be multiple cages in the lorry so wouldnt you need 50 ratchet straps or chains to secure each cage like in the video😂. What is the cage in the video meant to represent? 😂 i keep seeing videos like this with demomstrating with a cage but what is the cage in a real life situation
@NationalDrivingCentre4 ай бұрын
The whole reason for this part of the assessment is to show the Examiner competence in these pieces of equipment. For example the ratchet strap, the load lock mechanism and so on. Because of this, the reason for the cage is to demonstrate these pieces of equipment. As you can appreciate once you have demonstrated how to use a ratchet strap, that would echo for the 50 straps that you would need to secure the load correctly. If you were going to do this, as part of the assessment, this could take far too much time, and as you know, the DVSA is all about timekeeping😜. When you go to the company that you wish to work for they will carry out their in-house training as part of Health and safety at work act 1974 section 2 (under Training). So just to recap, the cage only there to demonstrate these pieces of equipment, we could not have you climbing over the truck, trying to secure an I-beam for this test. Hope this helps, and if you've got any questions, please give us a call. 👍👍👍👍 Kind Regards Paul.
@fmalexander5555 Жыл бұрын
That chain tying doesn't look right . . .
@NationalDrivingCentre Жыл бұрын
Possibly not, but that's because were using a test rig and not an actual load. Obviously if the load was present on the vehicle, we could then demonstrate the correct technique, but that is not part of the test. This is just to demonstrate the actual product. For example, the ratchet mechanism or the chain ratchet mechanism. But thank you so much for your comment. 👍
@Adam-os6sv2 жыл бұрын
Interesting I’ve just passed my rigid and I was shown the dolly knot. I said not many people use rope anymore, The training provider explained its best to know a dolly knot because it’s a “dying art” and you’d have better chance of employment over other candidates. I’ve never seen a load secured with rope so I just didn’t want to learn it. Especially on a flat bed it’s mainly ratchet straps.
@NationalDrivingCentre2 жыл бұрын
Very true Adam if VOSA/DVSA or Traffic police see you securing a load with rope you will be in trouble and potentially fined. Thank God it's a dying art because it should not be used anymore, the only people who need to know how to do a story not should be people with boats. Thank you so much for your comment Adam.👍👍👍
