It’s truly sad how the US worked so hard to destabilize any country that tried to have peaceful relations with Cuba. Manley spent the rest of his political career having to defend his peaceful diplomatic relationship with Cuba. Long love Castro and Manley.

@@Miamihgk no love! What destroyed the country was the greediness of Jamaicans who couldn’t sustain themselves without being dependent on the Americans. When manley stood up to america you all cried because America cut the puppet strings. So seaga came to power and gave America all they needed and in turn we all could eat again. Sad! We can only survive under america

They say Singapore emulated Jamaica's political system. They were not close to the US at their time of change. Lee Kuan Yew did what was needed as a US-labeled dictator for that country. Today that country is a shining example of success. Why did America and the CIA had to use terrorism and food embargo to destroy Jamaica for making friend with Cuba? While at the same time they were having diplomatic relationship with Communist China? All Jamaica needed was fair trade.

Weed Is a Plant Because of Russia’s friendship at the time with Cuba. Remember the bay of pigs! What the hell was America doing in Cuba..?!? Fidel had to look to the USSR at that time as an Allie for aid as the embargo put in place starved the Cubans of much. The mighty US frowned upon the involvement of Russian politics and collaboration during the 60s and 70s. By forging a strong connection with JA thru’ Manley, the Americans were concerned that Jamaica like any other Latin American country could stand on its own two feet. Fear is a powerful emotion! Not so mighty was the US then..! Long live Jamaica! Viva Cuba...VIVA!!!

Thats true. But conditions for 95% of Jamaicans were so bad when he came to power, he believed he could fix it in a short time. Mr White in Jamaica was adamant that no kid from the ghetto was going to sit in class beside junior white at Jamaica College, or Campion or Immaculate of Holy Childhood. So they, along with Seaga and his hench men, decided that if you black, step back, if you brown, stick around, and cause we white, we a keep it tight. Manley who is white, pushed back at them, and so they took their flight. Today blackJamaicans live a Norbrook and beverley Hills. Prior to Michael, you better be a helper or a gardner to go up there. LiverMore Thompson i respect your views. Who will be the transformational black leader that will pull all people of African ancestry together? I see that some good strong leaders have emerged in Tanzania, Ethiopia, Uganda and Rwanda. My concern is that we are focussed on catching up with white people’s consumption patterns (houses, cars and electronic gadgets) but we are not strong aspirants for: - strong and robust systems of public and private governance. - leading in science and technology for our benefit. We like to work for Bell, GE, Shell and others but we will not put our talents together and develop and own intellectual property. - become self sufficient in food with enough to aid other nations. - we voted for China to be a permanent member of the UN Security Council and not one of our own. We need an AU representative as a permanent member. - where is our space program. The latest big debate in this country is about whether a child should be able to attend school wearing loc. Thats the type of issue that keeps some professors yapping for months while our grand kids are being prepared to be the slaves of future world powers through our omission.

@@independentc4348 It is sad, but the world that the Devil is incharge of now, will not allow strong, black, peaceful, loving leaders with a sense of achievement to survive. The black leader will always be seen as a threat, and so it is up to each individual to take a stand, and then we will have a community of strong people taking stands, and the community mushroom into a country and a country to a continent. Do not belive the US or Europe will stand by and allow Africa to become industrialize. The same game is being played, albeit different players

Fidel the more compelling speaker, Michael thinner, showing the stresses of the socialist enterprise, a decent rhetorical display by both men. For the next few years the enterprise seemed unstoppable; Nicaragua 1978, Grenada 1979 and they said, Jamaican next, but then came Seaga, then came Reagan, followed by the worldwide retreat from socialism that promised so much and delivered so little.

@@bertobertoberto3 The socialists always blame others for the failure of their unworkable system and so they never learn and are condemned to repeat their mistakes. There is not one socialist country in the top 25 nations with the highest standard of living and maybe not in the top 50. The basis of high living standards is efficient production and distribution and socialism is a failure at both for reasons of lack of competition, concentration of risk, misallocation of resources and government enablement of the idle, the incompetent and the corrupt. The market economies succeed through fair competition, diffusion of risk, optimal allocation of resources and effective sanctions against the idle, the incompetent and the corrupt. Can you understand what I wrote or are you going to seek some easy escape like the one you offered. If you are not a thinking person, you are forced to take the easy foolishness you mentioned.

@@orvillebrown7235 you're confused on so many levels here, but I've got one word for you: China. Your argument about there not being one socialist (and I guess by extension communist) country in the top 25 is proven False. Also Singapore, Japan and France are basically socialist! Now Spain is considering giving their citizens UBI, that's even more socialist than China! The US is giving hand-outs to it's citizens, isn't that socialist? Just glossing at headline numbers and these bogus reports is a terrible way to draw conclusions. You should think more about the sources of your information. There's a saying that goes something like this: "Until the story of the hunt is told by the lion, the tale of the hunt will always glorify the hunter."

@@bertobertoberto3 You show your ignorance by the list of countries you describe as socialist , so let us define it. With accurate definition there can be no confusion, without it, we can argue at cross purposes all day. Let me offer you the one given by Jamaican statesman, Norman Manley, " It is the belief that the means of production should in one form or another, come to be publicly owned and controlled." I find that definition pretty clear and simple and devoid of the usual socialist claptrap about dictatorship of the proletariat etc. By that definition, none of the countries you described as socialist fit. If you think that relief for the Chinese plague is socialist, you are more stupid than I thought and I am wasting my time talking with a complete idiot!
@bertobertoberto3

@@orvillebrown7235 LOL you're the ignorant idiot here. Socialism is a general idea dude, not some mathematical formulation/definition that you cherry-picked! look no further than how different are the Chinese vs Russian vs. Vietnamese version socialism. Chinese companies are not government controlled. They have to follow rules just like any American company doing business in the US, but they're controlled by shareholders. The feds in the US pretty much owned the banks they bailed out and are continuing to bailout and these banks pretty much control the means of production. It's easier to see this in the Japanese case. Japanese companies are organized in what's called a Zaibatsu basically a clique where every company has a main backing bank...better yet go look it up and get educated because you have no idea what's going on...not only that they had a one party rule for over 50 years! They're just democratic in name. UBI/government handouts is a major characteristic of socialism, I see you've conveniently ignored that.

My family was one of many who did so. I see people posting on here that they love socialism/communism....what is there to love about such an oppressive type of government?......How many of you have lived in Cuba or even had a conversation with a Cuban person, who lived or lives in Cuba? Why have so many left Cuba, and continue to jump on boats weekly to Miami even now? Why has Cuban society not even evolved into modern times? Think about that for a minute!

Now that we've grown to become adults (with many of us living in industrialized foreign countries), looking back in retrospect, and now that we are more sensible in using our brains, it is now clear to us that Michael Manley or Joshua (as he was affectionately called) was responsible for the beginning of the mashing-up of Jamaica. He started the economic destruction, then PJ Patterson etal (including the JLP) finished the job.... And now, Jamaica has become a shit hole where we are unable to exist without largess from foreign entities.... Big-up the Chinese for their support in squandering huge amounts of funds on a bullshit country such as ours!!!
