To make it work, your finger or thumb must ride on the side of the stick. Finger turns one way, thumb turns the other. Works on the hula hoop principle. Primitive Appalachian toy, may have originated in England, no one knows for sure.

Base of my top? If you are referring to the router table, yes the base plate is purchased and I added the plastic.
