Native American music plays a vital role in history and education, with ceremonies and stories orally passing on ancestral customs to new generations. Native American ceremonial music is traditionally said to originate from deities or spirits, or from particularly respected individuals. Rituals are shaped by every aspect of song, dance and costuming, and each aspect informs about the makers, wearers and symbols important to the nation, tribe, village, clan, family, or individual. Native Americans perform stories through song, music and dance, and the historical facts thus propagated are an integral part of Native American beliefs. Epic legends and stories about culture heroes are a part of tribal music traditions, and these tales are often an iconic part of local culture.
Traditional Music Channel is for everyone who has a passion for music.
Music is an expression of human creativity. UNESCO reports that among all the performing arts, music is the most universal and is found in every society, most often as an integral part of other performing art forms and other domains of intangible cultural heritage.
Traditional forms of music are considered carriers of cultural heritage because they represent expressions and traditions transferred through generations of a community.
With recordings from more than hundred nations our collection of traditional music offers a staggering diversity of our humanity.

My parents would never teach me about our culture because they think it’s about Satan and evil spirits... but I think the residential schools taught them that... and my parents are christians but I will never forget where I come from... it’s the first time I’m listening to this and I felt... so restored and happy.. I was overwhelmed with... I don’t know it’s kind of hard to put into words... my heart is beating with the music.. I feel connected to my ancestors some how.. it sounds weird, my spirit felt like it detached from flesh and danced behind me... argh... but I’m probably overreacting.. great music

No! You are not overreacting, they are calling you... so you don't forget. They suffered and endured, learn your heritage, grow you locks and learn your language. Nature calls my soul and if it calls yours answer it ❤️

Music of our ancestors lives inside us...sometimes if we hear it for the first time we connect with it...i was in that situation....then i talked to a grandparent and he told me about the link...i dont know where this connectivity is harbored but it stays there...you may not know there s this being inside...if a relative of this being knocks from outside the inside being answers the door knock and opens the door to let in all...a bunch of guests your relatives...the language, the music, the colours, the dress, the food, the feelings. It s all true and baffling...even twins separated at birth and carried off on different continents liked the same colours and musical groups>>>genetics speak!!

My mom was born without a birth certificate. Everything was silenced and she suffered because of it! However, the Spirits are always with me and I had my first vision as a child. The Christians can try and steal your heart but they cannot succeed if you listen to your spirit within and around you.

Great to see the Native culture shared in music and stories. I worked the past few years with Yavapai, Hopi, and Navajo. As a native Arizonan, I grew up with Navajo friends, rode our horses... later became friends with many other tribes. So good to gather at pow wow's, around a firepit ... With true heart and compassion, wouldn't it be great if the sharing with all is done in that light? None of us (this generation) was involved in fighting (Apache's against Navajo - taking of lands) so wouldn't it be wonderful to reach out to each other, sharing and forgiving. Yes, work at restoring treaties, give back and share in a healing spirit. Native petroglyph's have the story of the worldwide creation/flood. The creator Yahweh in Hebrew/God We have that in common. It is a gift of life never should be or have been, forced. wîtaskîw, healing and peace to all.

The American Indian tribes who inhabited this continent (before the European's indignities were visited upon them) will have a renaissance in the future, as people become more enlightened and turn to environmentalism. This is my hope before humanity destroys this planet through ignorance and greed.

I am so-called African American. I am not aware of any Native American ancestry, yet every since I was a child, the music (especially the pow-wow music), the culture, the history, the songs and the plight moved me as if I was connected. Such is often reflected in the themes of my pottery art. I play pow-wow music as I travel in my truck and on my motorcycle; - Yes I get strange looks from many people but I don't care. I feel these songs in the atoms of the cells in my body. In them, I feel free. By my birthmarks, I have the image of a turtle; - The patient one and contemplating spirit. I have also the image of a hawk perched on a mountain; - The solitary sentry of his environment, fast, fierce and majestic in purpose and confidence. Stand on my spirit brothers and sisters!

don't need to go and get your head full of hatred you want to know I will tell you what your spirit already knows. You feel this because you where here before, before they came the first time and they killed everyone and only left children. There is an old telling that when we were gonna being anew everyone would be gathered together once again. So if you were here then you are here now each and everyone but in order to pass to the next we must learn to love one another. The creator does not look to skin color but to the light that shines from within.

I am Celtic. Cymru(Wales) it is our nation,separate from England in UK. The Welsh had to fight for their language,rights and nation to survive the English claiming our lands. Our language was banned,made illegal in education. We had to speak English to get work. Our Welsh signs were forbidden. They stated that our people should even be dissevered from intercourse, sorry don’t mean to sound blunt. They didn’t want us to progress. It wasn’t until 1992 that the Welsh finally won their battles of rights. That is just an insight to our history. Hope I didn’t drone on😁

We had 4 kids 2 BOYS & 2 girls ,they in turn gave us 9 grandkids,22 great grandkids,and 4 great great grandkids, wouldn’t you call this a BLESSING.what memories that will keep me going .one of the memories was that last June we held a family trip to the hoops valley ,in northern ca. Back in the early 1960’s a coworker. Friend and I was prospecting for GOLD in the six rivers national forest in northern calf. There we met a HOOPA Native American, in turn we became friends with several members of the tribe. And over the years.have stayed friends .been to lots of pow wows. The family trip was that the grandkids wanted to see where grandpa spent lots of his time prospecting for gold ,( yes all the kids had gold pans with them) none of us got rich but had a wonderful vacation time . Memories keeps this old man going , thanks for letting me vent a little..GOD BLESS ALL, from the calf. Wild man.

It is amazing how little Americans know about this music. Instead we focus on the music of white people (European culture) and black people (various, from Jazz to Soul to Hip Hop). This music is markedly different and perhaps that will be a factor in it becoming better known in the future. That would be refreshing.

I'm just going to come out and say this. This is real music not the BS like Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber. I may, not be an Indigenous American but to me this and music like it from all cultures around the world speak of something so true and deep that runs through the earth. All of our spirits run deep into this earth some more than others of course. However they run deep and music like this takes that deep running spirit and put out into the world, the universe. May this most vital music of the Cree continue for centuries to come.

I lost most of my Cree heritage when my grandmother's parents died (my grandmother was three at the time, and they moved her into foster care off the rez as her parents had no family to speak of), but whenever I get the chance to peek back into who I am, I feel a part of my soul open back up. This is who I am.

@LaMortEtLamour - The sassenachs/English have been trying to do it to the Scots for over 3 centuries. - They re-organise the names of our regiments into numbers to try & make us forget our history & slip horrible brass instruments into our pipe bands to pollute the very music we hold so dearly...So I feel the very pain you talk of - deep sigh!
@jimlyon7276
@jimlyon7276 3 жыл бұрын
@josephcrsn After Culloden there came The Highland Clearances ( which STILL continue but on a much smaller scale ) & a potato famine. And the clan system started breaking down. The Scots Diaspora didn't happen for no reason. People either risked starvation or emigrated to Canada, America, Australia or New Zealand looking for a better life. Being mainly mountains Scotland has always been a hard place to eke a living & joining the army was a last choice, though with the existence of Scottish regiments it was to a degree a continuation of @ least the spirit that holds us Scots together. Though even now the Sassenachs still try to "civilise" us by constantly trying to undermine our culture, music & history. Always trying to devalue us @ every opportunity ( yet being only 0.5% of the world's population we have won 11% of the Nobel prizes - & not the easy ones either! ) So with all this constant spite from the English, coming on a YT channel with pipe bands on I still find it amazing that, unlike the English, the rest of the world loves us, our culture & our music ! :)

I'm a descendant of a Scot clan (Celts) that traces back to the 10th century. I wish my people had been allowed to perpetuate their culture like this. To all descendants of any distinct culture: If they can take your dress, your music and your language from you, you lose what you came from. It's all important. Don't let go.
