Martin you’re a genius in everything you just said about our lack of water & HOA’s. Amazing yards.😊

Thanks for sharing your beautiful yard. I'm of the same mindset and enjoy much time watching the butterflies, hummingbirds, and dragonflies in my backyard. I don't have a bird feeder because there is a rat problem in my neighborhood, but I grow green purslane in pots for the little sparrows, and they very much enjoy it.

Too bad all of us aren’t as educated, and talented, as this man. Thanks for the beautiful tour!

You’re speaking the core truths for habitat & water conversation! I been planting cottage gardens for decades with native plants & antique China roses. If it does not attract pollinators it’s not on my core plants

Very inspirational. Hoping to do something similar in my front yard but have an HOA. Slowly learning how to plant for diversity and balance. Thank-you!

Great video and a wonderful guide on some well-adapted plant here in Texas. I grow all of the mentioned plants myself and can confirm they survived what past years have thrown at them without the use of any fertilizer, pesticide, and/or irrigation! :)

Honestly, the opening introduction is something I wish transplants here in Florida would listen to and take to heart. He goes from California to Texas and LEARNS about the nature of his area of Texas. We get so many transplants here in Florida that insist they know what they're doing because they were a Master Gardener in Maine, New York, Connecticut, Virginia, etc, but they don't know why their hostas, daffodils, tulips keep dying.

That Yaupon Holly is also America's only caffeine-producing plant. When dried, the leaves make a fantastic tea that's every bit as good as what you buy in the store. The key to fixing the problem is people taking it on themselves. Even if all you can do is grow one plant in a bucket on your back stoop, that's a step that makes a difference. When you have a million people growing one plant in one bucket, that's a million square feet of native habitat that wasn't there before. What you do matters.

The plant identified as clematis pitcheri is misidentified. It looks like a clematis but not pitcheri.
@martinb38403 ай бұрын
You’re right, I do have a clematis in my yard, the plant in the picture they called purple leather flower which is a completely different plant. but I have to hand it to them, they did a remarkable job of production and post production work and gotten most things accurately which I found to be rare video production work.

@martinb3840 Hi Martin. Years ago, I found Clematis Pitcheri growing in a park in Georgetown so it should do well in your garden. I was fortunate to purchase mine from a lady who grew it in her yard. I really treasure it.
@martinb38403 ай бұрын
@@Deborah78681 thanks Deborah ! yes I do have purple leatherflower elsewhere in my yard and that may be why they got confused. The one in the picture is a commercial hybrid I believe, my yard. isn’t actually 100% Native (but close!) and by the way, I’ve tried unsuccessfully to grow the Scarlet species in my yard.
@Deborah786813 ай бұрын
@martinb3840 The scarlet one, Clematis Texensis. I've never had that one, but it sounds more particular than Pitcheri.

Good point, the yard belongs to both of us and she shares my vision! I love my wife and she’s very supportive, I value her contributions greatly and she contributes a lot by critiquing my work. The people who made the video interviewed us both and she chose not to do much of the verbalizing, but ultimately the show producers edited the content. To be fair, my beloved is primarily in charge of the inside of the house while I do the outside of the house.

4 ft fences are a waste of time. Who ever voted for that is clueless
@martinb38403 ай бұрын
Agreed, after a lot of pressure the homeowners association now allows us to have 5 foot fences. That’s an improvement but it’s a pretty expensive one to convert! We all need to be contributing to the process to upgrade the archaic standard HOA rules!
