Make other allies pay for the NATO alliance instead of America

In terms of direct funding to Nato, the US pays for 17% of its costs (with the other nations paying the remaining 83%). Indirect funding refers to the proportion of each nation’s GDP that they spend on defence in general, with a general target of 2% for each nation. US exceeds this - it spends 3.52% (2021 figures) - but its defence budget covers commitments far wider than NATO (S.Korea and Japan, for instance). Seven NATO nations exceed 2%, with Greece being the highest at 3.82% (2021 figures).

@@AmericaFirstRifleman Not sure you can blame NATO for American nationalism; a poor education system, the biggest wealth inequality on the planet and the amplifying echo-chamber of conspiracy theorists on social media are the root causes of that. Perfect ingredients for anger, resentment and seeking a foreign bogeyman to blame.

@@nephilimivritt8216 no country is “behind on payments”. You’re making this up. No country “supplies weapons to NATO” - it doesn’t work like that. Nations bring their own forces to specific missions. Worth noting that the only significant NATO mission in recent years was in support of the US in Afghanistan following 9/11. US asked for support from its Allies and got it. Only time Article 5 has been invoked was when US asked for help with protecting its airspace following 9/11 attacks, using NATO AWACS aircraft. . Go read some history and learn about how NATO works.
