I love Silver. The most meaningful part about him and Jim is how Silver never had any reason to do anything for anyone else until he met Jim. And Jim never had anyone that would cheer him up and help him move forward, everyone just doubted him. Then they met each other and cupcakes happen~

I listened to this as a boy. As I grew older, I became depressed in a way. But like Jim, I never showed it. As I grew up, I began to look for similarities in people so I could look up to them as I once did Jim when i was small. I couldn't find any. I came across this track, and realized that these guys had never left me. Heck, Jim and I even had the same hairstyle! Unconsciously, I turned into the man I wanted to be. I have Silver and Jim to thank. So thank you guys for making me into this man.

What you said is really moving... I'm so happy for you, this movie helped me too and it's still helping me a lot in many ways! I really have to thank him! Nobody ever brings up that Silver might be the first Disney villain to be good in the end, at least when it comes to the animated films. I mean can anyone think of a Disney film where the villain reformed.
@kcmedias34606 жыл бұрын
Could Lilo & Stitch count? The grand councilwoman, with Jumba & Pleakley reforming after? And perhaps Moana too; with Te'fiti transforming at the end.
@xenomorphoverlord5 жыл бұрын
@@kcmedias3460 Te'kah was never really the villain though. That was the result of Maui stealing Te'Fiti's heart, thus causing Te'Kah to become enranged and seek revenge.

@@Kerorofan1990 The fact is... he would never have done it, it's obvious, he cared too much about him! For Silver, Jim is a son! Moreover, Silver seems to me one that yes, going hysterical very easily, but it doesn't seem to me all this violent... it's all appearance (I know people who can be compared to him (more or less) , so believe me)... he is a truly realistic, human and multi-faceted character 😉👍

@@c4productions5959 True but still, this was a passion project Clements and Musker have been begging for a decade, after getting rejected three times while releasing some of the most successful Disney Renaissance films. In the original story, John Silver is not that much of a father figure, and most of the time he's a prick that has a way with people with only his words. HOWEVER, John is the only one who keeps Jim safe from his own crew, even when Jim's allies left him aside. And this time Jim doesn't have anything that John might need from him: John just acknowledges how strong the boy is becoming in a place just as dangerous as like Trasure Island. He acknowledges his skills, and simply takes Jim under his wing. So in a way, this song still fits the original story as well.

"Of Silver we have heard no more. That formidable seafaring man with one leg has at last gone clean out of my life; but I dare say he met his old Negress, and perhaps still lives in comfort with her and Captain Flint. It is to be hoped so, I suppose, for his chances of comfort in another world are very small. The bar silver and the arms still lie, for all that I know, where Flint buried them; and certainly they shall lie there for me. Oxen and wain-ropes would not bring me back again to that accursed island; and the worst dreams that ever I have are when I hear the surf booming about its coasts or start upright in bed with the sharp voice of Captain Flint still ringing in my ears: 'Pieces of eight! Pieces of eight!'" -Robert Louis Stevenson, Treasure Island, Chapter 34
