You can add alpha amylase and gulcoamylase if you want to just use waste sugar starches like fruit cores, cake, pizza crusts, etc. the enzymes will help break down the starches so the yeast will get it.

Also the sludge you can just compost.

the yeast should remain alive after it has converted all of the sugar into alcohol so just pour away the liquid keeping the sludge at the bottom of bottle and just add more water and sugar. You can just keep adding sugar to the origional brew and it will make the alcohol stronger. If you flavour the water with hops you will end up with great home brew. You will need a bigger container and if you use a gallon you can make 8 bottles of wine

I have added a cup of sugar and warm water to an empty 20 oz soda bottle, shake it up good and add it to the 'spent' yeast mixture and successfully prolonged the reaction- it takes about an hour or so to confirm if it gets going again or if it's truly spent.

Great stuff man! I was going to utilize this method on my fish tank and co2 feed my aquarium plants. But due to working away up the mines the idea kinda fizzled out. but as always, great info

or you could kill two birds with one stone and brew beer or other alcoholic beverages and use that as co2 source, ie. no waste.

Awesome video, thanks! I set one up with a 5-gallon bucket, using 1.5 gallons of water to 6 cups sugar with 2 tbsp yeast. Runs strong for about 3 weeks+ before needing a refresh. [I ran an aquarium hose into the bucket with an air stone under the water & submerged an aquarium heater set to 90ºF in the bucket. I connected those to the timer that shuts off my tent lights so that the process pauses during the dark hours when.] It worked great until summertime, when it gets hot in my tent and I have to run the exhaust fan constantly. According to my CO2 detector, the CO2 drops from 1000 to 1800ppm to 300-400ppm when the fan starts running continuously. Trying to think of a workaround to this problem but it eludes me. Anyone have any ideas? Happy growing!

Use a sealed light hood to vent through to reduce heat and still not remove air from your tent, you can get a CMH but obviously LEDs would be out.

is it not toxic to be in a room with 1000 or more ppms? this method produces like 1500ppms right? i had a bottle of alcohol open next to a c02 ppm meter and it went up so high to 6000 ppms.

I heard that methods like this, since they are on a small scale. Do not make a big enough difference with each plant and not worth utilizing. I guess if you sealed everything off it would probably make a noticable difference. I'm not sure.

Great video but i got some questions 1.Is this co2 gas toxic and since its heavier than oxygen will this still circulate in the air i have a small grow box 2 Do i need my setup to have no circulation to keep this on the plant or should i still have ventilation i can close my ventilation if needed 3 How long should i keep this co2 disperser going 4 if i close up the dispenser tube will it explode what can i do with this set up when i dont need it Thanks heaps any adviceis appreciated
@iBlancoUC
@iBlancoUC 5 ай бұрын
1. Not toxic to plants unless it’s super high concentrations (that you can’t achieve with this method) 2. Circulation might be helpful. C02 sinks to the ground so a fan might help disburse the co2 around the whole tent if it’s not being actively exhausted out. 3. Until it’s not producing c02 anymore. Look for a lack of bubbles and strong alcohol smell. 4. Bottle will pop if it’s closed off. Solution is to just keep it open. No harm is being done by doing so.

How much Co2 is generated in terms of percentage?
@ldnelso2
@ldnelso2 2 жыл бұрын
Alcohol can get up to maybe 12 to 15% concentration until it kills the yeast. Once CO2 molecule for each alcohol molecule but the co2 is lighter by weight.

Nah...a bottle suspended above your plants with a bunch of holes punched in the cap. Let the co2 poop out the top and sink down to your plants. Never understood the tubing and extra water bottle. Over-engineered.
@IndoorHydroponix
@IndoorHydroponix 3 жыл бұрын
That’s why I basically said optional on the tubing. I have pop bottles with pin holes cut in the top that do the exact same thing. But people like bubbles. So I gave them bubbles. I agree man.
