This video is a New & Improved co2 Generator.
Easier to make then my last one.
What you need :
5 gallon bucket with a lid.
use the aquarium air pump, air hose & 1 air stone.
Incubator heating matt or an aquarium heater.
water, sugar yeast.
mix: dissolve 4-6 cups sugar into 2 gallons of warm water
then stir in 2 tablespoons of yeast.
Change mix about every 2 weeks.

Sugar/water/yeast. Air tight, hose it out. Lose the airstone, last thing yeast wants is disruption. Ntm it will only dilute your co2 with oxygen

Enjoyed the video and made one of these for my room couple days ago; seems to be working well/getting better ppm than with an exhale bag. This method is much cheaper than replacing bags every 4-6 months (plus exhale bags seem to always be near the expiry date). I made a couple minor modifications as saw fit; - added check valves between pump and bucket - added a second smaller bottle with just water to act as a gas defuser which prevents unwanted gasses for passing into my room - shut off valve and check valve added between bucket and bottle - insulated the bucket for better heat retention; helped a lot to keep around 90 degrees with just a reptile heating pad under the bucket All in all great video!! Recommend this method if looking for a cheaper alternative for Co2. If have to replace exhale bag every 6 months this method should work out to less than half the cost.

@Cj-cv4wb
@Cj-cv4wb 2 ай бұрын
@leathan7 the tube leaving the bucket goes into a soda bottle 80% filled with water where it will come out of the tube submerged in water, rising to the top as bubbles then the pressure should push it up and out of the exit tube that's also through the cap of the soda bottle since that tube doesn't have a pump pushing air out of it and that tube shoots it down over the room. When it's rising in the bottle as bubbles the ethanol vapors dissolve into the water but not the co2.

I’m experimenting with this. Some changes I’ve made: only turn the air pump on for a few minutes when your light turns on. Yeast will only need that one blast of oxygen to work properly....will stay active for a long time (full day). Continuous oxygen is no good apparently. Also, I wrapped a heat mat around the bucket to keep it in the high 90’s F (38 C) for the yeast to stay active.

The air pump is will hinder what you are trying to do. Yeast need a little oxygen to start reproducing at the start..Which can be done by vigorously stirring it before adding yeast.. After that, you DO NOT want any oxygen to enter the batch... The lack of oxygen is what causes it to slow reproduction and start working to convert the sugar into alcohol and C02 and other compounds.. Also the C02 will exit on it's own easily as it will build lots of pressure in the bucket.. You can test that by shaking a bottle of pop and opening it.. "Oxygen During fermentation, yeast has a couple of choices. If it has oxygen available to it, it will be able to reproduce quite rapidly (doubling every 3 hours). If there is only limited oxygen available, it will turn its task to producing ethanol and other products (about 1300 in all), like higher alcohols (sometimes called fusel oils), esters, organic acids, and carbonyl compounds. To get good initial growth of the yeasts, you want to have a bit of oxygen available - but you can do this simply by stirring the wash vigorously when disolving the sugar. Once you have added the yeast, it is critical to seal the container such that air cant get in, but you can still let the CO2 out, by using an airlock." Or airline in this case..

I am actually wondering why the air pump and stone,?? I've been doing something similar for years using glas gallon jugs painted black with the caps loosened just enough that when pressure builds it expels the CO2. Light impedes the fermentation that's why they are painted. I put a gallon jug in each corner of the tent and they last around 30 days. The tent keeps them warm no need for mats but if in a basement and they are on the floor that would be a good idea. I actually make wine while providing my plants with CO2.

I distill my own bourbon and run a hose from the water trap on the fermenter to the grow tent to make use the CO2 which is a byproduct of the distilling process. Be careful using the produced CO2 on seedlings as two of mine died. Not sure exactly why. The fermentation process and the distilling also attracts fungus gnats and those little bastards are no fun and are a real bugger to eradicate. This is a great generator, but overkill and actually counter productive. Fermentation is anaerobic, so the pump is counter productive. The fermentation process will create it's own pressure from the C02. If you just put a couple of hoses through the lid and run them to your plant this system will work great. You will need to re-do your solution weekly for a constant supply of C02. Eliminate the pump and this will work great! Thanks for the great idea Ganjajuanaman.

Putting your system there on a timer only stops the pump.... the Co2 continues to be generated and if the pressure it takes to work the bubblers in your aquariums is greater than the pressure to overtake your air pump, your air pump is going to get flooded with sugar water until no more pressure exists.... you better put a check valve on that pump side...and if the sugar water has to reach that check valve to make it work, it has to be cleaned every time.... How long does it take that air pump to build enough pressure for this thing to work? A couple of hours?
@larryfisher5198

Ok someone commented about bringing in fresh air via the pump and the subsequent dilution of the co2. Assuming the bucket is outside the tent why not place the pump inside the tent? Sure it will still be diluting to a degree but as gas is produced and co2 level rises in the enclosure the pump would be delivering elevated levels back to the bucket. In my feeble mind this reduces the dilution by an unknown amount but still reduced nonetheless.

Will this last the same 15 to 20 days at higher concentration or can it go 30 days? It is on day 22 now and the fermentation odor is much less prevalent than the first 15 days but growth remains robust.

Then insert the exhaust hose from the bucket into the bottle (all the way to the bottom) then insert an exhaust hose into the water bottle just like on the bucket, the water level should be below the exhaust hose. You are basically making a second unit but you will Only be adding water to that one. I hope that all makes sense. Oh yeah, it don't smell pretty lol. What about a way to trap the CO2 during the night phase? Since the reaction is 24/7 but you dont really want 24/7 CO2 what about running your exit hose to another bucket (perhaps at a lower level). During the day you can put oxygen through the solution and at night turn the pump off and hopefully the slower reaction of the CO2 would go into the 2nd bucket and settle at the bottom. You could only trap 5 gallons or whatever your bucket size was, and then it would be there in the morning on top of what you would produce when the lights and air pump came back on. This is just a thought I had, maybe you're the guy to look into. I dont have a way to measure any results so it may be junk science.

honestly they don't generate enough (i have had fermentation fridges packed with 30+ gallons of High gravs and they still don't product all that much). Realistically there are two options for plants, Co2 cylinders (which you can also double as a pH adjuster in hydroponics) or propane burners. You could use membrane/molecular sieve concentrators, but those setup's are unrealistically cost prohibitive.

This idea is not new but it is effective ..... for those worried about moisture coming out the exit tube just incorporate a moisture trap as suggested by some. An easy trap would be to form a drip loop in the tube ( a U shape) with a tee piece in the tube (bottom of the U shape) , another short length of tube running off of this into a sealed container. CO2 can still pass the tee and not escape the sealed drip catching container and the moisture will drip down either side of the U shape. You won't be able to trap all moisture in the humid air unless you ran the drip loop through a condenser ( much cooler place like a refridgerator) ..this is not practical. In a small area like a 5 x 5 tent a few containers of moisture absorbing containers could help ( active constituent being Calcium chloride 60 -100 % ) reduce the moisture level but these need to be changed anywhere from 1- 4 weeks depending on the volume of absorber used. I live in the sub tropics and use this for general moisture control to reduce mold during the wet season ...not 100 % fool proof but does help.

While researching this system. I found an article but no vids of it. It was about a diy system as this. But says to use 4gallon water 16cups sugar with a piece of toast. Putting a table spoon of yeast on the toast. Saying to top off sugar once a week. That it will last the whole flower cycle. No pump no changing it out completely weekly or biweekly. But says to have a wine making flow meter. Of which i dont see why... I dont see a reason to block the flow in this mixture. Not as if it could over CO2 your room. Or could it? Or...will your system put out more co2 than a setup without a pump? Naturally letting the pressure out as it needs. Not forcing it. Just looking for the most efficient way first. Says 1500ppm co2 is best for plants. Would be nice to know how much a diy system produces. Before having to test it myself. Forcing me to buy a tester 😆

Wait, wouldn't it work just as well if you didn't heat it? I know temperature increases the generation of CO2 but what if you don't actually intend to use that much? I mean 23 degrees for a ferment isn't exactly 'not enough'. It won't accelerate the growth but it wouldn't slow it down either. Please mention if there is something I'm missing.

So the problem with this...kinda like the original video.. is the heated water is going to create condensation which in turn is going to spit out of your air hose eventually...and possibly onto your plants depending where u have your exit hose..which could cause mold...a quick fix could be setting up a bottle next to it with the exit hose going into it and another hose coming outta that and going to your fan/plant...last thing u want is your yeast sugar mix spitting all over your plants or fan
@GanjajuanaMan
@GanjajuanaMan 4 жыл бұрын
Adding another bottle has been discussed here in the past. But even without it, Only air & C02 come out of the hose. The problem you describe is a Non issue, it does not happen. Thanks for watching.

@@GanjajuanaMan so where does the condensation go? U know...hot water...water vapour...it just miraculously misses the air tube? the only exit out.. @GanjajuanaMan

@@xxDekkenxx The water is warm not Hot. The exhaust tube is only sticking inside the lid about one inch. Condensation that forms on the inside of the lid & hose will simply drip back Down into the water. You see water does not drip 7 feet upward through a tube. It is not possible for the tiny Air pump to pump Water up 7 feet of hose. This isn't rocket science. Even when it is a fresh mix & foaming up, it doesn't go up the hose, if you have Followed directions & only filled the bucket 1/3 of the way with water.
@xxDekkenxx
@xxDekkenxx 4 жыл бұрын
@@GanjajuanaMan yes I'm not talking about the foam...I'm talking about condensation.. and your right it isnt rocket science..condensation will form in the tube as a result of the water being at 80°- 90°...I have set up your first bucket post with the pump on top of the lid...under another container..water at 1/3 bucket...water at 85° lots for room for foaming..will never reach the top..and low and behold the pump is covered in water..and condensation is forming in the air tube...and "spits' out the end....I'm not talking about pushing water thru a tube...its the condensation that forms that goes thru the tube...but maybe you realized this and that's why u made the new and improved bucket...so I will make another..in those exact specs...and try that as well...but I'm gunna take a wild guess and say the same thing is gunna happen..if you tube allowed me to send pics I would..but they dont..but I'd be happy to message them to u on messenger if you still think its "impossible".

Anyone have any suggestions for how to troubleshoot this situation?

best is can think is put you plants inbetween the exit and the co2. also try using LED lights to keep heat down if not already? i know these ideas are weak im in your same situation haha OR we could encourage people to burn more fossil fuels to get co2 levels back up to when the earth was slaying at co2 2000 ppm hahah

@GanjajuanaMan
@GanjajuanaMan 4 жыл бұрын
My heater is completely submersible & very small. It does go down into the mix, I cut the cord then made a small hole in the bucket near the top. Then fed the cord through, then sealed that with silicon, then I put my cord back together. An easier solution for a heater is to use an incubator heating pad. They have temperature controls on them. Just put the bucket on top of it. I recommend that instead of what I did. My heater stays in the bucket at all times because of this. My lid only has air hoses, one going in & one going out. @@Real-Eyes_Realize_Real-Lies and we'll if it helps 4 plants in a 4x4 then 9 plants take up more room and those other 4 plants give off co2 them selves as well . Therefore 20 plants in a 4x4 would be great because they all give off co2 and your not going to produce so much co2 that your plabt are going to suck it all up and use it all up. It's about keeping what co2 you put in there In there that's the problem you end up with because it would have to be a air tight atmosphere and that sound easy but really isn't because you open it up to feed them to check on them to show your buddies your grow etc... 👍
