I worked at Sephora for awhile, and it always irked me when girls that had beautiful skin would wear full coverage foundations. I used to always try to convince girls that they can use something less, but some people refuse to believe that "flawless" can be anything other than completely covering up every bit of your face.

babexrahamlincolnyes I know what you mean ... my idea of 'Flawless' is not that flat, blanket coverage look. I like to still see life, dimension and texture after base and concealer (only without all the actual main blemishes..... if that makes sense) X

Terri Fleming That Australian girl, Lauren Curtis is terrible for this. There are a lot of 'beauty gurus' on youtube who actually little to no training and just fell into this, and people say they look pretty and perfect when in reality it's a mask, that under daylight (and not camera lights) would likely not look good at all. There are even some gurus who push the 'spider lashes' look... Just no. Lisa Eldridge knows what she is doing, delivers professional tutorials, which beautiful results.

Nic StrawberryBlonde I totally agree with you. I love heavy eye makeup as the next girl does, and I like to have a bold lip too. Although, I sometimes cringe the way some of these girls put on their foundation and concealer. Also, the way their contour looks on them it's like an orange streak. In all honesty, I just enjoy some of their product recommendations or looks when watching some of them.

In case you end up doing that "undereye concealer" video, it would be SO helpful if you addressed how to deal with *RED* undereye circles. I'm quite fair and the skin under my eyes is very "translucent", so that pinkish/redish hue shows through! Pinkish correctors will only worsen the probelm(i'm guessing, i haven't tried one) , while yellow and green ones tend to leave a gray cast. I know you are not a magician, and some things just can't be covered completely, but i thought i'd ask since i guess you've come across what i'm describing on models, celebrities etc, so it would be very helpful if you told us how you deal with it. Crossing my fingers you'll see this. And thank you!

Whenever I don't put on my makeup (concealer and blush) people think I'm sick, I look very pale, etc.

ever since you did that acne covering video years ago i've been following your technique and i am so grateful for it! my tip for anyone with FRECKLES: whenever my skin's playing up i actually don't use any foundation and go right in with concealer (using zoeva's 223 petit eye blender to apply and sometimes zoeva's 142 concealer buffer to blend). i find that when i cover up my freckles even with only a thin layer of foundation, it just emphasizes the blemishes more, so my overall complexion does in fact look better without foundation.

vivelafandom I can relate to you, too. Some days my skin is so weird that when I apply foundation on it its making it look worse. In our case I believe we need to try a lot of products, techniques, chemicals and so on until we find what works best for our skin (in terms of skincare as well as makeup), in order to achieve that flawless looking skin that some women have naturally. After all genes play a huge role. We just have to put more effort than others. :)

I am so glad Im not the only one who feels this way. My skin is so dry and flaky, but I also have a lot of redness I want to cover up - so Im always conflicted between not covering up the redness, or covering it and then have the foundation cling to all my dry patches. But I started using the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum, because Lisa recommended it for dry skin - and its really good, its my holy grail foundation now, because it covers but it doesnt cling to the dry patches as much - maybe it could help you too 😊

I do something like this. I mix a tiny dab of concealer with my moisturizer to even my skin tone, and then I touch up any minor imperfections with concealer by itself. To set everything in place, I use a light dusting of mineral makeup. The result is a light, clean finish. I can't stand covering my whole face in heavy makeup. It just looks so fake and feels even worse. I've noticed that in pretty much every foundation tutorial on KZbin, these women cake on their makeup, and I'm like "NOOOO, that's more product than I'd use for over an entire week! I bugs me so much, because I love playing with makeup :(

sanzyi7 I'm blessed with no undereye circles, but I know from other youtubers I watch that do have very dark circles that they always talk about using a slightly orangy salmon colored corrector first and then going in with a full coverage concealer. +sanzyi7 If you haven't seen Jordan Liberty's channel, you might want to take a look. I also have severe dark circles & his tip has helped brighten them up: he recommends a peach/salmon colored (for fair to light skin) corrector first, then concealer that is the SAME shade -- not lighter! -- as your skin tone or one that is just slightly DARKER than your skin tone. If your skin is medium to dark, he recommends using orange corrector. A concealer palette for medium to dark skin with multiple shades would be helpful: you may need to mix more than one shade together. As Lisa always says, I hope this was helpful. It really helped with my circles.

THIS is why you're my all-time favorite makeup artist... Since high school, I've been doing the spot concealing trick because it just never made sense to me to cover everything and make it obvious I'm wearing makeup when not everything needs covering. I had bad acne in school and no one knew it because of this technique. It's funny too because I JUST visited Sephora and instead of going crazy, I decided I should just get a great concealer to use with all my different BB creams and bases, and I picked up the Cover FX one you use here. Sorry this is so long! You're just the best. I can't wait for your book :)

@sakurajenn9 жыл бұрын
Steffy Rodriguez You can try using a green-tinted color corrector before concealer in order to cancel out the redness. Another trick is to use a concealer that is slightly darker, just slightly, because it'll conceal the darkness better. Or it might be that you just need a higher coverage concealer for spots, I really recommend the Nars Creamy Concealer, it completely changed my life! (and I have tons of scarring from previous acne haha)
@23cokebottles9 жыл бұрын
Steffy Rodriguez might also be oxidizing. Do you have the same problem with the same concealer, but in other areas?
@paperyakuk9 жыл бұрын
If it's covering the red tone, it's probably heavy/thick enough but maybe try a shade lighter, or mix in a lighter shade to lighten the dark scar. It takes a bit of practise because you don't want to be lighter than the rest of your skin but if blended properly it should work :)

musicalmay Really lightweight matte foundation with natural effect ... that doesnt sit in the pores or fill them. Filling open pores with heavy foundation isnt a good idea in my opinion just draws attention and makes your skin look oilier. X

musicalmay Boscia has a product for the T-Zone that is magical for controlling T-Zone oil and minimizes pores at the same time! I highly recommend it :)

musicalmay La Roche Posay makes an amazing mattifying moisturizer that makes your skin look so lovely under foundation. It is specifically designed for oily skin. It is called Effaclar Mat. Use it as a moisturizer and primer. It has helped clear up my skin of blemishes and I dont have to blot every 3 hours anymore. It must make my skin look nice because 4 different guys smiled at me at the gym yesterday!! I won't object to that! :-)

I am re watching this stunning vid and would like to suggest the Dr Jart Disapore bb/cc cream for your pores, an excellent smoothing primer in my opinion, affordable and effective, hope this helps, cheers Suzie.

Lisa, your technique is awesome. I have hyperpigmentation from old acne and sun tanning, and pin point concealing has been a game changer. I'm amazed at how great my skin looks! Thank you so much, Lisa.

Watching her put on makeup makes me feel normal again. She uses the tiniest amount, and so do I. Watching these twenty year olds put it on with a shovel is discouraging. Haha. And unsightly

I never liked my face with full foundation on, some parts look ashy no matter what I do. I tried a light flawless look after watching your acne coverage video. It turned out gorgeous. As simple as it may sound, cover just the areas that need it, most makeup tutorials do exactly the opposite. I felt like my skin could never look great with or without makeup because I did not understand that letting the natural glow show makes the skin look a lot more beautiful. Thanks for reinforcing this technique in multiple videos. You are a true makeup 'artist'.

Lisa you have changed my life! I have a few pimples and red areas and thought that I needed a full-coverage, full-power foundation, but then I thought, I'm only 20, am I going to be covering my face for the rest of my life?! But after watching this and your acne-coverage video, I have realized that I don't need to cover everything up, and that I can use products that won't clog my pores and worsen everything just to cover it up again. I really appreciate your videos and your take on makeup, and I'm sure that my skin will be much more beautiful in the long run because of the tips that you teach us. Thank you :)

Whatever concealer I use for red spots, it always soaks into the skin and disappears. Any advice? I use drug store cosmetic, because expensive cosmetic is REALY expensive here.
@amolily12399 жыл бұрын
Try dabbing a blob of moisturiser before and letting it soak in, then apply your concealer and your skin should drink up the moisturiser rather than the makeup :):)

Andrea Valentova Try light layering concealer, then powder, then concealer again, finally powder. Do your whole face first w concealer, then second layer, etc. Use thin layers, several light layers are more effective than a unique heavy one.

use a green colour corrector on your spot before applying concealer

***** if there's any water in the concealer it most definitely can soak into the skin. I have very dehydrated skin so that often happens to me if I don't moisturize well enough

Dear Lisa, I have rosacea on my nose, above my eyebrows and on the entirety of my cheeks, from under my eye down to underneath my jawline. My skin is also dry, so lots of product shows. I cannot spot conceal my redness because there's so much of it - what would you recommend? I am desperate to find the right regime because I can't wear red lipsticks with my red cheeks and my skin tone dictates the colours and looks I can wear. Many thanks x

I have some rosacea on my cheeks too and I found the It Cosmetics ByeBye Redness correcting cream really helps to mask and conceal the redness! Hopefully you can find it and try it out! x

Make sure you wear very hydrating foundations/concealers. Also I suggest adding in a hydrating serum and/or primer before makeup, since makeup isn't always a miracle worker. Laura Mercier has just come out with a nice hydrating foundation. You could also try Asian bb creams. They have fuller coverage but won't dry out your skin. Missha, SkinFood, etc have great bb creams.

Berni Roach Try using a shade darker in you foundation as this will cancel out redness,and wont sit on top of the skin as much as a lighter shade if you have dry skin-just make sure to blend into your neck and chest with a bronzer.Fake tan (for face) also helps to cancel out the redness.

Berni Roach I use avene Antirougeurs CALM Soothing Mask before making up, even don't rinse it (leave it on) some times because it helps little peeled "skins" to stay put so they don´t show so much. Also like Moisture Surge Extended by Clinique: I use a thick layer and wait a few minutes until it dries before making up; it keeps skin flawless (like a light mask) and fuses with makeup so it doesn´t show up. Then I put make-up using small touches, dabbing it in carefully not to stress my skin any further. I use Cllinique Redness SOlution makeup, it contains Zinc which calms rosacea. Hope this helps :-)

I find myself watching your videos for hours on end! You're absolutely beautiful with or without makeup, your personality is so genuine, your attitude is always positive, and your voice is so calming! Keep it up Lisa I love you!

I know you all love it but I just have to say this. She already has ideal skin so sure, whoever has a perfect skin already doesn't need to put on a ton of coverage. I lot of us have problematic skin that it is NOT so easy to take care of. (So easy to say: take good care of your skin!). And the second thing is that this video has a really bad lightning (why so bright!) and I really really don't see any difference with and without make up and hence I can't see what this technique really does:( Sorry:(

Lisa has a video on her channel specifically about acne/blemish covering. The model she uses has visible blemishes, and Lisa just magically hides it with this technique. Look the video up, i'm sure it'll be here somewhere in the recommendations.

I love seeing a proper MUA doing their thing. None of this KZbin culture of full coverage foundation, a ridiculous amount of concealer under the eyes and all over the face. It might look good on a camera but we all know it's too much in real life. Love that you strive to enhance natural beauty :)

Your skin is so clear, even without the makeup! Do you have any tips for maintaining clear skin, (e.g. regular cleaning, certain products, diet, massaging) or would you say genetics is a big factor? Thanks, Steph.

What I love about your approach to makeup (outside of editorial/tv, etc) is that it encourages the same ideals Kevyn Aucoin did - your skin will always look the best when it is YOUR skin, not piles and piles of makeup. I have never been comfortable with a mask of foundation and truly appreciate all your information and videos. Thank you Lisa! Brenda, Canada

Just found your channel. What a difference between so many other KZbin make up gurus....so glad to see some people don’t buy into the “more is better” make up look. Some of these young women just pile it onto their otherwise beautiful faces like masks.

Hello! I am your Korean fan:) I just wanted to thank you for changing my point of view towards my skin. I have an acne problem so i used to cover all of my face and make-up used to be a stressful and frustrating daily routine. But after watching your video I looked into the mirror and realized that actually 70% of my face still looks fine and flawless. So now I have changed my make up and make up is not a stressful process anymore, I enjoy it now. Plus my skin got way better after getting rid of heavy foundations and thick concealers♥️ Thank you so much. You make me not only 'look' beautiful but also 'feel' beautiful.💕

I loved your bit on how women think they need foundation much heavier than they actually do. I deal with that every day at my job. Everyone seems to want full coverage, when their skin is absolutely beautiful naturally. It's nice to be able to tell them that. You are so inspiring to me. Thank you for your videos.
