We continue our adventures in Georgetown, Guyana's capital, with a meal and a yarn in Chef Delven's beautiful Backyard Cafe. Yum yum yum. We then cruise down Demerara River, marvelling at flocks of scarlet ibis, and great and snowy egrets, spotting other water birds such as the rufous crab hawk and yellow-crowned night heron, and enjoying the sunset with a beer. Next it's off to the Botanic Gardens birdwatching with our skilled guide, Carlos. We see all manner of marvels including the great horned owl, blood coloured woodpecker and the world's smallest macaw, the red-shouldered macaw.

The trips to Backyard Cafe and down Demerara River, and bird watching in the Botanic Gardens, were organised by Wilderness Explorers in Georgetown (wilderness-exp...) and Pioneer Expeditions in the UK (pioneerexpedit...) as part of their Guyana Nature Experience itinerary.
