Hi! I actually bought my second dwarf hamster on Thursday after much debating I decided to just go and buy another one. He's a baby male Russian Dwarf and I'm taming him at the moment. I liked this video especially seeing the hamster setup!.

Why don’t you use bedding that they will naturally borrow in, I suggest the carefresh!!! That bedding is good in a chamber hide with different sections where you can put different substrate for enrichment

I already use carefresh I’ve had hamsters for over 6 years & I personally prefer wood shavings. Carefresh is also really expensive one big bag is over £20 I need at least 3 to fill the cage so £70 on substrate is just too much 😕 I only really use carefresh inside hides. I ran out of wood shavings when filling up my dwarf hamsters cage and I had to use carefresh & it also doesn’t hold any tunnels when I use it my cages.

Hello I noticed you mentioned using Mopani wood (the wood piece you stuck in the freezer) and u wondered if that’s a hamster safe wood? Since I’ve seen it at my local petstore I’ve been trying to see if I should go get it for my hamster.

If you get the wood from a pet shop it’s generally safe but you can always boil it to sanitise it & remove the toxins if it’s an unsafe type of wood. Also just make sure it’s it’s not something your hamster is chewing/ can cause splinters. Most woods are fairly safe to use from pet shops like grape vine or cork log for example

What is you're thought on the the beech wood bedding from rodipet? I am thinking of ordering it. Is it worh it? What did you pay in total for the bedding, any extra cost besides the post? You should really scatterfeed instead of useing a bowl. It's natutal for them to seek and gathering food, it gives them more to do, use their sences, stimulanting natural behavior and stressreducing.

The bedding is alright I don’t think I would get it again in the hurry because it’s small for the amount you get. I can’t remember how much I spent but I didn’t have to pay any extra I think if it’s under or over a certain amount you get charged customs. It was last summer so I don’t remember too well and I do scatter feed. I mostly use bowls for fruit and vegetables.
