Hello! I was looking for some nature journaling videos and came across yours! Did you know Jack (John Muir Laws) works with homeschoolers? I went to a Charlotte Mason workshop that he gave a few years ago. He is very knowledgeable about nature, an outstanding artist, and a kind and generous person! He has even donated items to people who did not have the money to pay for them. I'm retired now, but I have worked as an environmental educator and did work with some homeschooled groups. Presently, I just make some nature exploration and nature journaling videos. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for a very interesting video. I use the Laws book like a reference encyclopedia and take it in bits and pieces. I have a few nature journal books but I go back to the Laws book to get the info I need in specific chapters. He has kept a nature journal every year starting as a child, I wish he would publish a few pages out of those. He mentions in some of his videos that he still refers back to them when wondering where and when he first saw a particular animal or plant for instance. His parents also kept nature journals so he keeps high expectations for what can be done with journaling and he is also a college professor, something that home school parents can consider when wondering about the value of having the kids keep journals over the years. I based most of my daughter's seventh grade curriculum on what we discovered on our nature walks. I submitted her journals to our school superintendent for review along with other work as progress reports and they were highly regarded. The KZbin videos of Professor Laws' workshops are interesting and participants vary from seniors to college students to challenged students and he relates personally to all of them very well. He has group outdoor nature walks and those are also on video. When the groups get together to compare notes at the end of the walks he has them place their open journals on the ground for everyone to admire and I love that their work is definitely beginner level and all are appreciated and encouraged in their efforts.

Mr. Laws has a website and has ALL kinds of instructional videos on the website on how-to-draw. I found it very helpful. If anything the law book is very inspirational. 😊😊😊😊

Thank you for this. When I look through Amazon books, I want to try so many, it is just not good stewardship to buy them all. I have noticed that the books that have a workbook format, I feel I/the children must make “what is called for”. It looks to me that the open ended journals with blank pages leave more room for creativity and one does not feel they MUST do THIS. See YT Journal de Sylvie beginner video. Have you seen that in 2019 John Muir Laws did a 40 lesson plan and it is free on YT? I think to do it well, the teacher will need to go through the lesson, practice and incorporate it into their life, Then take that example they did and teach the lesson to the children (of course getting all supplies, table area, and the place to observe ready ahead of time).Older children could follow his lessons on their own, depending. I want to incorporate occasional scripture copy work into our family’s journal such as the verse that God has made himself known through Creation, so that all men are without excuse.
