LOVE LOVE LOVE this! It took me years of gardening to figure out that certain bugs are better at pest management than I am. It's their full-time job to eat other bugs. Now I just hand-pick leaf-footed bugs and leaf-hoppers and intervene for spider mites. Everything else gets to run its course bc nature balances it out if I wait.

I've been pesticide free for a few years now and it's made me get slightly more comfortable with bugs 😅 the wasps especially have never stung me or been an issue, I appreciate them and have had far less pest pressure compared to when I was using neem oil frequently

The only thing I occasionally use in my garden is BT. With that said, I’m thinking I last used it in the fall for cabbage loopers on young brassicas. Once they get bigger, I will remove some leaves and feed the chickens. I don’t like to use neem oil mainly because it causes the sun to burn the leaves. My biggest issue is squash bugs. I feel like I can barely grow squash at all. Last year my battle was epic. I had probably 10 varieties of squash, and wound up harvesting maybe 2 winter squash and 6 summer squash. This year, I planted 4 squash plants, they got them all. I’m waiting to plant more in a few weeks, hoping it will be late enough in the season, and I’ll get some squash. I’ve tried picking them off, vacuuming them off, duct tape for eggs, nothing works. I’ve been looking into kaolin clay.

I'd take a year or two off. If you don't want to do that, don't plant until later in the season for sure.

This is a great video! I try to let beneficial insects do their jobs, but I'm kind of new to Arizona so I'm still learning which ones are beneficial and which ones are not. Your video helped a lot in that respect. I also love to plant beneficial flowers for the good insects and let many of my veggies go to flower to attract more. Such great information! I was surprised to see hummingbirds eat aphids off my roses. Every spring I get a container of ladybugs 🐞 and let them loose on the roses, also for the aphids.

Both aphids and squash bugs get in the flowers and kill pollenation. I have to hand pollinate. I’m waiting for more beneficials. I’m in Palm Springs area and it’s tough but learning daily. 5 years later and always learning something new! Enjoy your videos!

Perfect timing, Angela. Help!! I will get an app to identify the insect that destroyed my lettuce crop. In the morning all was well, by evening gone. I left overgrown parsley for the ladybugs in the neighboring raised bed. Along with the parsley I had successful potatoes and rhubarb. All of the potato plant leaves were GONE at nightfall yet fine that morning. Under the parsley I found a nest with 16 eggs.

Cosmetic damage only - they are beneficial pollinators. I wouldn't worry about it.

I haven’t had to spray anything in my garden for a long time. It’s true that nature will eventually work itself out. I’ve planted more flowers and added bee houses. But now I’m seeing damage to my roses from leaf cutter bees. I planted a few roses and they are still very small and the leaf cutter bees are really causing damage to the leaves. They also seem to love my grape vines. What do you recommend for this issue? Since it’s a beneficial causing “damage”. Thanks

I have some flower starts under my grow lights inside and they have thrips, I think! Is it ok to take transplant them outside if I can't kill the thrips first (it seems impossible 😞) or will that lead to an infestation in my garden? I have noticed many lady bugs in my yard and so I'm hoping that natural predators take over...

I wouldn't knowingly take thrips out to your garden. Try to get rid of the thrips first.

Hi Angela, what about termites? They seem to be in the entire yard in Sun City My husband wanted to know what we should do? We are getting rid of the rotted palm tree and rotted oleander.

Right………. But I have so many birds friends nesting or visiting in our yard that I rarely see those big no bugs gold finches, house/carolina wren ,Carolina chickadees, cardinals my power house friends wipe them all my yard is 70% native 20% brassicas 10% annual it works!

I never seem to have balance in time to protect my produce. I have grasshoppers right now so bad when i walk to the garden they part like a red sea - I don't think the garden will survive them. When I shop for plants or seeds for the garden my husband always says I spend more on feeding the insects than our family. After 4 years of so many lost gardens I am too discouraged to continue.

You can wait and see if beneficials show up or spray them off with water a couple times a day for a few days
