More to Tongass than bears. In recent years there have been several incidents with bears charging humans. Some of those bears were shot and killed.

The bears are the only reason I’d visit this place. Untouched nature means bears, I don’t care if humans are attacked. You go in their territory, be prepared. Stop expecting to be safe all the time, you’re 1,000x more likely to get attacked by a dog than a bear.

@@Felis-Concolor Thanks for the stats on that. I know that neighborhood dogs can be deadly, esp when they have bad owners. As for a bear attack I think it is almost always a bit unpredictable. Who knows if that bear had a fight with his wife earlier.
