Morning Jen that's a great place for a walk and great that you saw and heard different birds along the way. It was nice and quiet but you said February was. The bench near the water was lovely and the song of the Northern Flicker so cute and those Northern pintails in the water from a few days before were adorable bobbing up and down 🐦 That was so lovely and its great that you tell us what the birds are. Hello dear Anna- always a joy to hear from you! 💕💕 I really enjoyed checking out this area on a quiet day, just a bit windy in places. The boardwalk is a great area to relax and watch for birds, and listen too. I spoke to one gentleman on the trail who lives nearby and walks there everyday- wouldn’t that be great… he said it’s worth coming back during spring migration when thousands of birds visit. Lovely walk around Grays Harbor national wildlife refuge. It did look like a very easy and enjoyable trail. Really nice boardwalk path with lots of great views along the way. Hi Gasper- it sure is a nice trail and boardwalk. It was a bit slow, but I loved that it was peaceful and there were some pretty birds. Yes, in April to May it’s supposed to be a very good location to see thousands of migrating birds. Wasn’t that fun to see the ship- quite unusual! Thank you, have a great weekend! ☀️☀️☀️😄

Hi Jennifer, The calendar will turn to March in about a week. I am sooo ready for spring. As I mentioned We had snow on the ground only a couple times and did not stick on the ground at all, but certainly the temperature stays below freezing point in some mornings in NC. I enjoy listening to birds chirping in the woods. A good sign of spring though. 5:41 it is hard to find their appearance. The flat and wide range of Wildlife Refuge is so empty. The soil beneath there will be a long wait of lives hidden. I was spoiled by the wildlife refuge in FL, there are abundance of wild birds all year around. Hahah Have you seen sandhill cranes? They appeared to be in the parking lots at the grocery store.hahahah It is pleasure watching your nature hike under the pretty sky. See you next time. Can you believe the hurricane hit FL so bad a few years back. now one of the island in MIAMI became raccoons inhabitant. The wildlife found the way to survive. At your convenience, please drop by.

It’s very peaceful to listen to the birds chirping in the forest- sounds wonderful! It’s amazing that there are bird year round at the Wildlife refuge in Florida- they must love the weather and sunshine! it’s too cold for most of the birds to want to stay here… they’ll just pass through on their way north in the spring and fall. O yes, you really will enjoy it! I was there one time before but hadn’t seen this trail was available- a very easy walk along the edge of the airport. I was happy there were quite a few birds even in the winter. Do you know about Merlin Bird ID? the free app that helps you identify birds when you just hear them… If your family is interested, I would recommend it… they show you a photo of the bird too, plus more. Those boardwalks are a foot saver in that wet country. That was beautiful - nice hearing the birds. It's hard to use natural sound around here as there are so many jets flying over western Colorado - it's crazy. In the mountains, it's even louder. I'll bet there are lots of mosquitoes on that hike when it warms up??? Thanks for sharing Jennifer - have a blessed weekend!

Hi Bob- too bad there are so many jets causing noise pollution. Is there an airport nearby or is it just the flight path? When I was on a hike about 3-4 weeks ago closer to Seattle, I could really tell the difference… I was closer to SeaTac and there were so many jets, not many quiet moments at all… quite a realization that the animals and birds have all had to adapt to that noise interference. Yes, it was pretty quiet and peaceful … I love boardwalks 😄❤️ We think the amount of mosquitoes would depend on the sea breeze… 😉. Thanks Bob, you too, have a blessed day! ☀️☀️

No restrooms....no problem, any bush or tree will do for me. A nice boarded walk on the Sandpiper trail and a couple of nice benches to use along the way to spot the wildlife. Not the longest trail I have seen you on but sure was a quiet one, cheers Alan

I bet that during some times of the year this area is probably teaming with different birds. Looked like you had the place more or less to yourself. Grays Harbor is another place I hope to visit one day. Was it once the mouth of the Columbia? Maybe this fall I will take a 6 week adventure and explore the scablands, Northern Cascades and the Olympic peninsula. That would be fun. So much to see and so little time. Thanks for another fun hike.

I enjoyed the birdsong a great deal Jennifer. I was trying to compare it to some of our similar species. I'm looking forward to the spring migration too, the highlight of my birding year. 🙂

Sound exciting Chris! Where do you go for the spring migration? Is there a nature reserve or do you go to the coastal areas? Over the years we haven’t paid too much attention to the spring and fall migrations of birds that pass through our area… we mostly notice the birds that arrive here for the winter, and then when they leave… thousands of snow geese and trumpeter swans. In eastern Washington there is a flyway for the Sandhill Cranes- I’m hoping to visit there at the right time this spring- but it takes planning and getting a hotel and so forth. But it would be so worth it! 👌☀️☀️

Hi Dan! Yes, I think the old pilings supported a bridge in the old days. It sure is a nice area, pretty quiet this time of year. I bet the shorebirds love the tide flats and the song birds love the bushes along the trail 👌 Thanks! 😎

I went there for my 24th birthday last year and also checked out the mermaid museum, had a delicious meal at KFC, and did a round of mini golf to end the night.

Really amazing place you visited. I'm really sorry I've been absent for the past month or so, I've fallen behind, my dad had a pair of bad falls in late December and I've been making sure he takes it easy (I half-jokingly told him I'm gonna wrap him in bubble wrap until he looks like a mummy). Plus other stuff happened like my pet bird died a month ago.
