David Attenborough takes us through the jade plant and its extraordinary evolutionary quirk - its strong colour helps it stand out in the moonlight, guiding bats to its flowers and helping to pollinate with other plants!
Crassula ovata, commonly known as jade plant, lucky plant, money plant or money tree, is a succulent plant with small pink or white flowers that is native to the KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape provinces of South Africa, and Mozambique; it is common as a houseplant worldwide
Kingdom of Plants 3D is a natural history documentary series written and presented by David Attenborough, which explores the world of plants. It was filmed over the course of a year at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew.
Welcome to Nature Bites the OFFICIAL Nature Hub Channel. Bringing you closer to the remarkable animals that inhabit our natural world.

And it only becomes clearer and clearer as we know more that these basically learned their way and evolved into the incredible diversity we see today. That jade vine learnt to color itself so and glow in the dark for the benefit of its main pollinator. It was borne from the mutual dependence of the plant and pollinator.

there is indeed an architect behind it all... how the fuck can someone just say that plants decided to make nector to attract other insects.... how? how rational could a plant have to be do develop all the parts necessary to attact bees.... by accident? lets give God the credit he deserves... the more you look at science,, the more you understand that none of these would have happed by accident
@krishnanunnimadathil8142
@krishnanunnimadathil8142 2 жыл бұрын
@@dukepaulmuindi8727 Because they did! Through repetition, trial and error, experience and choice; like happens to us all. That plant species must have had several versions of colors and aroma which did not work, and was therefore not attracting bees; forcing it to try something different; until something just clicked, and it stuck to this color and aroma, until something forced a change, and bees stopped coming, forcing it to adapt yet again; and on and on. It is a self-taught process. Life forms observe, experience, learn and adapt as to the best way to ensure their posterity and survival. It is the ingenuity of these life forms that they evolved so much. No god needed there. To write off the learning by plants as god’s work would be childish and not descriptive of what actually happened. Plants, like any life forms, are constantly learning and evolving; only it happens too slowly for you to see!

@@krishnanunnimadathil8142 Satan makes Man serve the Creation not the Creator. "They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is forever worthy of praise! Amen." Romans 1:25 “For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. Ever since the creation of the world his invisible nature, namely, his eternal power and deity, has been clearly perceived in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse” Romans 1:19-20, God Himself points to the creation as proof of His existence. “The sheer beauty and artistry of life’s chemical systems is undeniable. So, too, is the appearance of design. For those who regard this glorious treasure as the handiwork of a Creator, the page-by-page details supplied by researchers provide a rare and intimate glimpse into the art and thoughts of the Divine Master.

I'll bet bats have the same low light color sensitivity as many other mammals. For both my dog and me, that color of highest sensitivity is about 505 nm. Just about the color of those flowers. Special LEDs, sold for low light uses have this wavelength and are sometimes called "night vision green". I use then for my dog's night vision collar, and for some outdoor lightning.
