Getting Over The Fear Of The Blank Page: How To Start A New Sketchbook

Oh my....this is SO me! This fear of failure...making a mistake...can permeate ones life! All aspects of life! Don’t know how i got this way....would love to blame my parents...but am struggling now with my desire to make art! LOVE your sketchbook and thank you so much for addressing this subject that is seldom talked about!

Don't let your fear take over, Lynn! I know this feeling very well, and I know it's possible to overcome it, or at least work at it. Keep refocusing away from the fear, and do the things you'd like to do instead, even if you still feel the fear. That way it will fade a bit each time. I hope you'll find a way that works for you!

I like the idea of a self-made notebook. Not only is it less expensive, I think it is more personal. If a sketchbook is meant to be a personal place to develop skills and play with various techniques a notebook that you’ve made yourself seems most appropriate.

Yes, you're so right. It definitely feels more personal and I like the idea that you can choose any paper you like or even combine different papers.
