You drew me in with your tree drawing classes. The tips were great because you offer a simple clear path to build my skills. I picked up my pencil to draw as you spoke and I think that helped. Now, back to my Summer sketching class with you on Gumroad!

Good morning. I use several types of fountain pens: Sailor Fude bent nib angle 55 degree, Sailor Fude bent nib angle 40 degree and then my newest, Number72 Wancai Mini Transparent Pocket-Size Eyedropper Fountain Pen Fine Nib 0.5mm. This little pen fits in my altoid tin with gouache mini pans

Great demonstration! Thank you! I even slowed it to half speed so I could watch your drawing better! Is this on hot press paper and do you have a favorite for this kind of sketching? Thanks again!
@NatureSketchbook23 күн бұрын
I always debate internally if I should show the video in natural speed, but it would be so long that I think no-one would watch it. ;-) Yes, it's HP paper, I like to use Saunders Waterford extra white.

Lovely irises😊 I like to use py150, a yellow pigment that can be used to produce a whole range of values.

Yes that's a very versatile pigment with a wonderful glow.

Hi Julia! I'm a new subscriber. Liking your tutorials It is very conversational, journalistic and detailed, to the point I can see your blue veins in your hands pop. The way you break down visuals into fundamental shapes to capture verisimilitude.

Hi Julia! Thank you for this video! I was wondering if you ever try to sketch while walking? Is there a technique for it?
@NatureSketchbook29 күн бұрын
These days I take it more slowly, I like to sit down while I sketch. I would probably walk into lamp posts or people if I attempted to draw while I'm walking! ;-)

I use FB to advance my brand of politics because I am a writer, furthermore keeping in contact with family and friends. I don't promote my business as an Engineer on Social Media at all for two reasons: first I do not stuggle to find work, and secondly because my B2B communication is guaranteed to be confidential. Your absolutely correct Julia, there is a dissatifaction and sapping of creativity and valuable time that comes with X, Instagram, and FB, that said, there's really not much more I can add-I can't rely on these platforms for anything...I need to learn about who I'm friends with and even more who will instruct me. I'm glad you continued to reach out to me Julia. Blessing.

I enjoyed this so much! Losing a highlight in an eye is something that can easily happen, and I have been looking for an opaque fine pen for whiskers, highlights, etc. Thank you for sharing your nature watercolor techniques!

This is exactly what I needed. I know the point of these videos is that it takes time and it's not some sort of "instantly get better" quick fix, but after following the video and not much more than 30 minutes of practice my drawings look so much better. This is not to say i'm magically an artist, they are still basic but compared to what I was drawing before anyone could notice the clear difference. The segments about basic shapes and then refining them was clearly explained, and something I'd never understood about "under-drawings" before. Thank you so much for this video!

Your greens and foliage shapes are lovely. The values of the darkest greens against the lightest captivating. I’m happy to be craving to paint watching your videos and not craving to buy things 😊

Completely agree and yes I am also guilty of doing this. I have already started decluttering and required apps and unsubscribing to useless websites that I just delete from my inbox and don’t even read. Excellent advice thank you

Oh yes don't get me started on websites and newsletters, that's something I have to do too!

I have only just discovered you on KZbin and thoroughly enjoy your tutorials. Self taught in basic drawing but I’m ready to get creative again. I have never really thought about using watercolour but I’m keen to learn. What type of coloured pencils are you using? I am tempted to do one of your courses but I’m not sure where to start. One of your basic courses to start with once I go through the PDFs that were emailed. Thank you so much for staying on KZbin.
@NatureSketchbookАй бұрын
Thank you and great that you enjoy my tutorials! Currently I don't use colored pencils as much (I think I'm in an ink phase), but I've been happy with Faber Castell Polychromos in the past. I'd say work your way through the PDFs in your own pace and see what topic interests you the most. I show demos and explain basic concepts in each of them.

That’s how I like to sketch , inks are fabulous and easy to use but did not know of the waterproof fromR R&K Discovering through you the waterproof sketch inks. I use about the same set of cheap pens that are very useful! For my honey. Many thanks!

There are other waterproof inks, I'm currently testing De Atramentis and Octopus Write & Draw - they don't dry as quickly in the fountain pen.

A Eurasian robin.
@Cynthia.BАй бұрын
Your bird painting turned out so wonderful! It was lovely to see all the steps you took to create him. This was a lot of technical info, but I think I understood most of it. It's sad about AI and theft, and I hope you can protect your work as an artist. I looked at your website and your courses. I'm planning to sign up for at least one or more; I just have to choose which one to start with! 😃 I'm sure I need the one for layouts and composition for Nature Journal pages. Thank you for this information and all of your videos. ❤️
@NatureSketchbookАй бұрын
Thank you Cynthia! I know it's a lot of techno babble. I'm currently less concerned about my own work - I'm not one of those artists whose entire job has been taken away by AI, I mainly teach these days. But for a lot of background artists in movies and games, editorial illustrators, book covers illustrators it looks pretty dire. And of course the ethical aspect is that the AI was trained without consent from any of us. We live in weird times. Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy my courses, I know there so many by now that it can be hard to choose. The layout course was a fun one to make!
