Everyone was biting Treach when Naughty By Nature dropped. He was the first fast rapper who was spittin fast at all times. I mean, Kane did it before him, but only on a couple songs... and Kool Moe Dee invented speed rap, but he only did it on a few songs and moments. Treach came with the rapid fire fury of a fully automatic weapon. Even on slow beats. And his technical skills were top notch, not just jibberish or simple rhyme schemes. Shit was complex, high vocabulary, and with a varied flow. If we talking raw lyricism alone, I put Treach in the top ten easy... just off of raw spittin and nothing else.

Rap wasn't better because rappers were angry instead of high but because Rappers had energy and their music had energy and was alive. Originally Rap and Hip-hop were considered a style of Dance music or what today's generation would call EDM. That's why Rap had so much energy and sounded so alive in the 80s and early 90s.

Their performance at The Apollo was absolute fire. Never seen a crowd at the Apollo rock out like that. Watch it when you get a minute...
