Isn't it rather silly, to deliberately subvert conventional standards of beauty and then get mad when people don't think the character is beautiful? It's a bit like choosing to not bathe to subvert conventional standards of hygiene and then getting mad when people call you dirty, innit? If you want to be accepted by the mainstream you need to do things that appeal to the mainstream, and if you want to subvert things for the sake of it you need to accept that people will be put off by it.
