I would venture that none of these people have the equine background necessary to provide the animals with what they really need, yet think they are doing everything right--typical law enforcement mentality.

So what are your thoughts on race horses or polo ponies? They spend hours in boxes. My daughter passes polo ponies every weekend. They each have an open space on their own just about as big as their stable, no grass cos they have eaten it all, standing on dry earth or in mud. Race horses have a miserable life apart from a gallop every day and often go to slaughter after their short career , cos they need an awful lot of re training to be a suitable riding horse. These police horses are well cared for, often have a little holiday each year and most go to excellent homes for retirement .

They are chewing through boredom im assuming they have little or no turnout. If so they will have little normal horse behaviour. Grooming, playing, grazing......kept in a box and taken out to work when needed. Really sad. Some may say they are well looked after. But if you deny any animal its normal behaviour is very sad and depressing 😥

I read so many of these comments from typical stable amature stable riders who either own a horse or ride for fun at their local stable and think that their some type of expert when it comes to horse care. These people are experts at what they do and even if their not they become experts fast by doing this day in day out. They don’t just turn up after seeing a video online and decide that they want to be horse groomers and trainers. It takes years of exspirience more than you have for most of you commenting that these horses are bored. I highly doubt that these working police horses are bored and that they are bored working on the streets and keeping us safe. You watch a a 3:09 minute video and think you know the full story.

@greenelectricemerald57614 жыл бұрын
they dont use a specific breed, but the police do prefer the big, heavy and strong types of horses. Imagine tall light weight to medium weight draft horses or those who a mixed draft and warmblood. Draft horses and those with draft blood often have a more cool temperament and dont go into Flight mode as often as warmblooded horses.

Tell that to my mother's Welsh D. He would happily stay in forever, you put him out, he will trash the field and want back in. He will stand at the gate at 6am wanting in, he will maybe stay out 2 hours then be back at the gate wanting in. His field looks like a polo match has been played on it, and he's the only one in it for maybe 5 hours a day max.

The vast majority of horses used by the police are trained, cared for and ridden by people with no background or understanding of what these animals need to be healthy and happy. I would argue that forcing a flight/prey animal to live in a corral all day long and help 'control' crowds is abuse.

lol how about you stop and *think* about it for just a hot second? There are some places cop cars cant go. Ever been to New Orleans during Mardi Gras? Police have to use mounted patrol to get through that crowd. New York also uses it because the grid locked traffic can block cop cars from getting where they're needed. *Thats* the point.
