impressive work and amazing that you still have 10 fingers.

Sorry I am not sure I understand the question. It is the intersection of the cuts on the front and side that result in the finished piece. The order in which I do it is simply what works for me. Sometime I can leave a small portion uncut to hold things in place until it is finished.

This is a really cool idea. I've started making what I call "Battlefield Chessboards" and the idea is that the surface of the chessboard is not flat because the surface of a battlefield is not flat. So far, I've done a couple valleys, a hill, and am currently working on what's sort of the inverse of the hill. I think a wavy board (wavy like the ocean) would be great for a nautical chess set like this. I would love to see my idea be made by other people though, especially if they have even more ways to make it unique (like nautical pieces to match an ocean like board). If the idea sounds like something you'd be interested in making, let me know and I can provide details on how I make them. I can also make one to sell to you as I am making them to sell as well but I'm not trying to push a sale here.

What is that machine you use to cut the wood?

Very nice designs and execution. To make it enjoyable to play with, I'd round off the bases into circles and add a metal plate for weight, plus a felt bottom.
@Jeplans3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, definitely weight and felt would make the better.

Curious about your cutting pattern. Do you cut the front or the side first? Do you think it matters?
@Jeplans6 жыл бұрын
Typically I cut out the more complicated side first.

Do you think its possible to do this with a coping saw? I can't afford a scroll saw.
@Jeplans9 жыл бұрын
I don't know. Seems like it would be difficult.
@brianvice26106 жыл бұрын
Amer Al-Hiyasat, yes it is possible. It will take a very long time and it will need to be done very carefully.

Can u make a whole chess set just the pieces and u can send it to me anke u can tell me the cost you will sell them at and I'll send a money order to you
@Jeplans10 жыл бұрын
I just sell the plans to make the set. It very time consuming to making a set. With, cutting, sanding and finishing its at least between 1-2 hours per piece. Sorry, between work and family I simply don't have that kind of time. Thank you for the interest.

If you every found someone to make this nautical set for you (of if you just like unique chess things in general) I have a pretty unique chessboard concept that may interest you. If you're interested in hearing more, please let me know.

@Jeplans7 жыл бұрын
No, I start with some hand sketches. The finial version of course I use a desktop publishing app.
