Hello. I'm from Brazil and I love your projects!!! I'm planning to buy a moto saw, but I can't decide which is best. I thought about the dremel moto saw or a brand einhall, which is bigger. Could you help me? Thx Adriana

Adriana Candal Thanks, I don't really now how saws other then my own(DeWalt 788) performs, I think it works very well. Small light saws tend to vibrate more and need to secured down to something heavy.

For the flaps that are left over, and a lot of other details you are doing on your pieces, I suggest a high speed carver. A dremel spins at about 40,000 RPM at the most, whereas a high speed carver with a carbide bit spins at 400,000 RPMs. It's basically a purpose built dental hand tool. The kind nobody likes to hear squeal. I use one to carve the tips of crochet hooks I turn on the lathe. They are pricey, but there's nothing like it for this kind of work, and it cuts through even the hardest woods on the Jenka scale like butter. www.sculptingstudio.com/

Amazing work, really ! What kind of wood do you use ? What is the "size" of your scroll saw blades? (how much teeths per cm (or inch) ? Thanks in advance !

Mostly number 5 blades on finer stuff No.2 blades. Skip tooth can help. for compound scrolling I would not typically use reverse tooth blades. Honestly though I just reach over to my box of blades grab whatever style of No5 blade is handy most of the time.

Bought your plans and happy with my pawns, but what blades/speed are you using there? My cuts are coming out very, very rough...
@Jeplans9 жыл бұрын
Most of the cutting I do with a number 5 blades, The finer stuff I used a number 2. The speed varies depending what I am comfortable with, don't really look at what is says I just reach up and spin it slower or faster to what feels right for what I am cutting. Some of it was the blade themselves, they were delta banded blades that cut cleaner straighter that any other I have tried. Unfortunately I can no longer find them.

JEPLANS Thanks for the answer good ot know about the blades. I figured as much with the speed it's kind of what I do as well.

hello. Can you share the dimensions of these chess pieces with me? Thank you.
@brianpruitt10157 жыл бұрын
have you tried using spiral blades?
@Jeplans7 жыл бұрын
Yes, They don't work well for something as small and detailed as this. Good for fret work things that to big to rotate. Also used them for some angled cuts that could not be done otherwise.

This is really cool. What tools to do you recommend? Is there any preference to scroll saws you would recommend.? Thanks

The white is 1"x1" square dowel simply labeled Hardwood, probably what is usually labeled Poplar(Liriodendron tulipifera). The blacks are cherry I like working with cherry but it burns easy when cutting.

What an excellent video demonstration of your chess piece scroll sawing. I liked the way that you sped up the camera to turn what could have been a long drawn out process, (even for those of us vitally interested,) into a very enjoyable viewing. The work is indeed very patience demanding, but you gave us a good idea of what is involved without it being in any way tiresome. Thanks for sharing, I thoroughly enjoyed learning. Ed
