Maybe we could make that happen🙂. But this YouTubing is just for fun and not at all professional 🤣. I’ll keep it in mind, so maybe we can make something someday 😇

Hi, great video as always from wonderful places and so far from my home. Thanks to you I can enjoy it a little too ... What happened to the gunwale on the bow on the left?

Thanks for your comment🙂. Unfortunately the teak plank on the outside has a little rot, making it loose. We have it, but not risking to loose it overboard🙂. The replacement of the teak planks is on the “to-do” list, but we probably won’t be able to do it this year. Just finished a major electrical upgrade, with new lithium house batteries, chargers, inverter, more solar panels and so on. Expensive stuff💸🙂

This is a great boat. I've been seriously looking at Nauticats for about 6 months, made an offer on a 44, but it didn't go through. These 38's seem to be a great size. Adds some nice space over a 33, and not quite the heavy hulk of the 44... do you ever find yourself in heavy seas where you'd like to have a bigger boat?

Thanks for your comment🙂. They are truly great boats. A 44 is/was my dream, or even better a 441… but unfortunately they are out of my price range so we found our 38 and are happy with it🙂. So many things to consider, but the 38 is roomy enough. We are a family of 5 plus a huge dog, but it turns out that the two oldest kids have other interests so normally we are three onboard plus the dog. So plenty enough. With the substantial bow sprit on the front and davits at the back it’s bigger than the stated 38 feet, and at 12 tons she’s no lightweight. But very manageable with the big prop and bow thruster, although a pain to back up in a straight line. They say that the semi fin keel 38 also sails a little better than the 44, but I couldn’t say as I haven’t tried🙂. We have been in some serious weather, and never felt unsafe. Sure, she pitches and rolls, but not a single squeak from anything. We are mostly in sheltered waters, but being far north in Norway the seas here is no joke. Two meter waves in open waters you almost can’t notice, but two meter waves at two second intervals is hairy. Normally we don’t loose more than a knot or two if the weather and waves kick up and we go by motor, but one time we managed only 1-2 knots at normal cruising rpm. Our wind instrument was down, but the estimated wind speed/forecasted was about 50-60 knots, and then with 1-2 meter waves at a very short interval…. Had to use chart plotter to keep the boat in the right direction and into the weather, because it was almost impossible to see anything outside. I think it would have been a hairy trip in a 44 as well🙂

@@Stefanesai Thanks for the reply. I'm "boat dreaming" and the Nauticats have caught my heart and mind. I'm approaching 60 and I'm from a short lived family, so I need to stop dreaming and buy a boat. I think the major difference your cutaway keel will make is slightly less wetted area drag, so you'll go a little faster. You'll also maneuver better in the marinas. I think difficulty pointing into the wind is mainly a function the windage caused by your raised bow, pilot house and mizzen mast. Once the mizzen is in the wind shadow of the main, it becomes drag. Apparently you should avoid this to get the best out of a ketch when sailing upwind. But poor upwind sailing is the price for all of that comfort. Everyone I've talked with has said it's a tradeoff that was well worth making. I've had a 44 owner tell me that they got an extra half knot when they replaced their big fixed prop for a folding prop. Something to keep in mind... Fair winds... : )

@@jasonmcintosh2632 Every boat made is a compromise, and in that respect there is no perfect boat. Only perfect for the owner🙂👍. The 38 sail well enough for us, of course we can’t compete in really light winds or against more sail oriented regatta boats, but we do well enough. If sailing is a big thing there is always the S&S designed Nauticat’s out there to choose from like the 37, 40 and 43’s. Choosing a boat is sometimes like choosing a dog… sometimes the dog/boat choose you🙂👍. When looking at different boats, we always came back to Nauticat’s, there was just something about them that struck a chord with us. While we have friends that chose completely different, and while there are good arguments for both sides there are no one correct answer. Boats are different, because we are. We are not getting younger, any of us, so keep at it. I wish you all the best, hope you find “your” boat soon (or she finds you), and get out there. Lots of joy not only sailing, but also caring for a fine built vessel is rewarding🙂. Best of luck to you, sir⛵️❤️😎

Btw that folding or feathering prop is on the “improvement list”. But they are costly😆💸

New feathering prop installed last summer, 1 knot speed gain in light and moderate winds💪👍🙂
